Has anyone tried the new Supersonic 60watt combo? I own the original, and was wondering if the mods to the new one really adds more bottom end.

I run a Supersonic 2-12 extention cabinet loaded with a Weber Blue dog and a Weber Silverbell, and now have plenty of bottom end. I also notice Fender does not list the Supersonic 2-12 cabinet on their website anymore. Did they discontinue it?

I was looking at the schematic after watching a YouTube video where the reviewer said it didn't have enough low end. There is a couple of places I would tinker with, if it didn't have enough low end for me. I played one briefly, but it hasn't been in the budget yet. Maybe Uncle Sam could give me some bailout money for musical home improvement. Anyway, C2 and C68 look like tweak candidates. Maybe .022 for C68, then .0047 for C2 if it still didn't have enough.

Cool, thanx for the input. I'll have to check it out too. I've e-mailed Bruce Zinky, the designer of the original and I'm waiting for a response. I'l post his answer when I get it.

Oops! My information was wrong. Bruce Zinky is not the designer of the Supersonic. He did design the Pro-Sonic, and left Fender in 1995. Sorry for the mis-information.

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm also concerned with resale value of my newly acquired used super-sonic 112. I love the amp but hate to spend the money only to find the value has dropped significantly b/c fender came out with new, improved one and no one will buy mine several years from now. How much, other than new logo and name, did they actually change it? I see they still offer the 112. I wish I had the 4 switch pedal tho, would be nice to have control over reverb from my pedal board!

I posted the same question as a rider to another thread. I've actually just finished with email going back and forth to Fender ( I choose not to reveal the person I communicated with, but he certainly did make an effort) however, I am not satisfied that 'wattage' is the difference between the '112' and the '60'. I am not deep into electronics and schematics. The human variety is my gig. But I've read the specs on both amps and, with the exception of what appears to be an effects loop, they seem the same in all respects including cabinet. As far as the 2-12 enclosure is concerned, there are no specs on it, and they very well may have just changes the name, and nothing more.I'll be following this thread closely for your further input.
Doc

Yeah...I've been sitting on the fence about selling my original SS for some time. I kinda like it....but none of the voicings quite cut it for me. I did tube and speaker swaps to warm it up a bit, and it helped a little. Then the new, improved version came out, and I'm kinda sorry I didn't sell earlier because it may be hard to unload my old one now.

Well, I did find out they are still selling the Supersonic 2-12 cabinet, but they do not list all the specs unless you download the manual. They are still loaded with the Celestion Vintage 30's, but they have now tilted the baffle board and have insulated the cabinet. I personally don't think you'll have a problem selling the amp at a later time. You'll probably have to sell it on your own instead of trading it in to get your money back. Just do what Fender did. Push the Vibrolux, and Bassman voicings, and the overdrive channel. I happen to love my Supersonic 112. I don't think I'll ever sell it, because of it's versatility. I think it's part of my arsenal, and if I want a different amp, I'll just save my pennies and buy a different amp. Perhaps, a super Reverb, and add it to the arsenal.

It is funny that Fender modified the Supersonic 112. It was a good product. Why not just start new and put out a new product? Take every good thing from all of their tube amps, and put it into one. Then they could charge the hell out of us, and we would run out and buy it.

Yeah, now that I've added an attenuator to tame the beast and get to hear what driving the amp hard really sounds like, I'm afraid you'd have to pry it from my dead cold hands to take it away from me!! :)

I'm more in love with this amp the more I work with it! I hate that many had issues with their 112, some I'm sure were legit technical issues. It is a USA more or less hand made amp, so it's going to have some, but I fear that some just didn't know what to do with the amp. It's a powerful amp, and it's made to play with a band on stage, IMHO.

I'm happy and that said, I'm excited that the new ones are out for the basic fact that the Super-sonic is still alive and may finally get some of the recognition it deserves instead of being the red headed step child of fender amps!

I agree. I also believe that many don't realize this amp is meant for playing on stage with a drummer and a bass player. When you have it on the "Bassman" setting, you have to turn it up to achieve some really beautiful natural overdrive, and turn down your volume pot on your guitar to achieve beautiful "Clean" sounds. Turn up to get overdrive, turn down to get cleans. It's like an old "one channel "Trainwreck" amp. I think a lot of people are afraid to understand how an amp works. They just turn everything up to "ten" and wonder why it sounds like crap. Hey, everyone, it's called dynamics. I'll say it again. I LOVE my Supersonic!!!!

As far as I can tell the 60W is the same amp with a different LOGO. If you are thinking they changed it, you are mis-lead! I just bought the clearance 60W from GC. I put RCA BP 6L6s in it. Tightened the Bassman side of it up. The GT 6L6s were actually identical to the Ruby 6L6GC-MSTRs. I had a couple laying around and they are dead ringers. Not a great tube! RCAs are much better sounding tube!

Hey thanx for the info. I'll have to try some different tubes to try and smooth out it's sound. You're not the only one who has said to change out the tubes on this amp. My amp tech has also suggested this. His thought was to try a variety of different ones to dial in the sound I like best.

I also have a couple ANOS Mullard and RCA preamp tubes in it.
