Hi all, well I have had my Blues Junior long enough now to use up it's standard factory set up.

I was wondering if anyone out there ie; 63 supro.... :D has ever heard or used a Blues Junior set up with a Jensen C12N Speaker with JJ tubes.

I have tried to find something on youtube but to no avail, need something to give me an idea at least.

Cheers.

Just some stock talk. I would load a Weber Alnico speaker and JJ Tubes almost always satisfy. Decent prices as well.

Over the past few months there have been several threads relating to mods and speakers and how they sound in the Blues Jr.Apparently Celestion Vintage 30s are supposed to really enhance the sound of the Blues Jr.If you do a search on this Forum you should come up with some very interesting mods with both speakers and tubes etc. that have been posted in the past while.

Well, I couldn't help myself...After trying out the Electro Harmonic EL84's...and comparing them to JJ Tesla EL84's.. JJ's win hands down.

I treated the Blues Junior to 2x JJ Tesla EL84's and 3x JJ Tesla 12AX7 tubes.

This thing sounds absolutely fantastic....Putting in the JJ's really gives the amp a richer tone and has taken a lot of those cut your ears off highs out of the amp..

The break up on distortion is very blues crunchy..and nice sounding.

All I want to do now is insert the Jensen c12n speaker and that should do it.

Now I know what the JJ rave is all about....just damn awesome...

Glad the JJ love is starting to catch on. JJ's are some of the best current production tubes out there right now.

Fender uses the C12N in the Bj NOS. Have one and love it. 50w version of the DRRI's 100w C12K. Will try JJ's when I need to retube.

Mate if I were you, I would swap out all of your tubes for JJ's now, if you can.

I did not realise what I was missing until I did mine yesterday.

I had a jam today for about an hour rock solid and Normally I would come out of a bedroom jam with sore ears from the high cutting sound the BJ factory set up normally produces.

Today I am sitting here with normal non swollen ears as opposed to when I had the original tubes in the BJ. My BJ now sounds awesome and my ears feel great.

I am paying for a Jensen C12N tomorrow...unfortunately I have to wait for 6 weeks until it arrives.

I say Go for it and swap out those tubes to JJ's...you won't regret it.

I tried JJs in my Rivera Fandango (EL34 not EL84) and was only marginally happy with them. I switched to Tung Sol and I am much happier. Haven't tried the JJ EL84s .

You may also want to check out Bill Machrone's BJ mods. I tried them on my BJ and it definitely made a serious improvement.

Billm Audio is definitely the place to go to learn about and order mod kits for the Blues Junior. I started with the "TwinStack" mod and that allowed much better control of the tone, especially the mids. The overall tone was better, and the better control allowed many more tones to be dialed in, like ultra-scooped sound for example, which isn't possible before the mod. I liked it so much that I did the same mod on my Deluxe and Deville and both sounded better, cleaner, smoother.

Before the "TwinStack" mod on the Blues Junior, I usually set the bass, mid and treble knobs no higher than about 6 for the best tone. After the mod, I set the bass to 9, the mid to 3, the treble to 8, master volume to 12 and the volume to 5 and it sounds wonderful with stock tubes and speaker. The Eminence Gold Label Reissue ( stock in my amp) is the same speaker that came in my Deluxe and it sounds great to me. 8)
