I just picked this up at GC,it was shipped from a different GC out of state. When they packed it they removed the power amp tubes & rectifier tube & bubble wrapped them separately.So....(forgive my ignorance) which socket does the 5AR4 rectifier tube go in?

Looking at the exposed chassis from the rear, the 5AR4 rectifier tube goes into the far left socket. The 6L6s (or 5881s) are next, followed by the 12AX7s.

This amp sounds great!I'm getting a rattle/vibration noise though.I don't think it's a tube,it sounds like it's vibrating the chassis.I tightened up all the screws, checked the speaker connections & mounting bolts even the handle screws. It's more pronounce on certain notes & in certain octaves. If i lift hard on the handle or push against the back of the cabinet it seems to lessen the noise which is what makes me think its mechanical.Any ideas?

mine does it sometimes, sometimes not...
when it does i just move it a lil' and/or
place another piece of carpet under it
seems to help

sometimes it is from a certain note on a certain string, usually somewhere on the D string about 12 fret or so.

but somedays not.
i swear some days my amp SOUNDS different
even tho i think it is just in my head

i am no expert....since u just bought it - and if it really is profound or pissing u off- bring it back

mine is not that bad at all, so i live with it and do the above

Well,I'm gonna try to find what's causing it if I can tomorrow.I hate to return it because it's used & I got a good price. But it's a pretty unacceptably loud vibration noise, not just slightly annoying.Probably enough to be heard live from the audience's perspective, definitely enough to hear on stage & without a doubt enough to prohibit recording.

The fireplace screen in my studio rattles and you would swear its coming from the amp.

muffle the screen and the sound goes away !

Speaker wires can sometimes do the same thing.

Yep...the overhead light in the room I practice in does the same thing. Took me a while to figure that one out, and you're right: I swore it was coming from my amp!

It's not from the room,I tried it in a few different rooms already. It's definitely coming from the amp itself.

We have two large family rooms in the house and I had to pick the one with a fireplace for my music room.

Thankfully nothing gets recorded in there that anyone but myself friends and family will ever hear.

Then there is the acoustic guitars that will start to "play" on their own too.

Loose rattling cabinets are indeed part of the classic Fender Tweed sound, some botique builders build it into their amps.

Not sure about the newer Bassman amps, but the old ones had that thin floating baffle board. Great for resonance ! Art

I don't know of wath kind of wood, those cabs are made today ?
I read that many people have their amp vibrate on this forum.
Could be a cheap plywood with some air holes between wood sandwich ? Or bad glued finger joints ?
Are they made with finger joints ?

The 59 bassman ltd cab is solid pine with finger jointed corners.

Nothing cheap there.

Again having recently owner a Clark Piedmont and a Victoria 20112, I can tell you even the $3000.00 stuff has rattles.

In my humble opinion the Fender 59 bassman LTD is a bargain at its current price.

Does the hand wired stuff sound any better ???? Not one bit !

I will admit that changing the speakers out for a nice set of Webers made a HUGE !!!!! difference in tone.

A little tube swapping was in order also.

I would put my 59 LTD up to an A/B test against any of the botiques costing three times more.

I found the problem & actually I'm quite surprised I'm the only one experiencing this.Looking at it from the back, the top right Jenson speaker (by the preamp tubes) touches up against the bottom of the chassis. The square part of the speaker by the magnet is vibrating against the amp .It's almost as if they got the measurements wrong when making the cabinet.Anyway, for now a business card wedged between the two stops it.

There is a little adjustment room with the two screws that hold the Chassis in the cab.
Can't believe Fender let it get out the door like that !

anyway, take off the back cover (I'm assuming you understand the danger here) and loosen the two screws/nuts and washers you should now be able to slide the chassis back and away from the speaker magnet guard.

I just swapped out the Jensens on mine, I had to pop off the bell covers on the Webers on the top two speakers.

Glad you found the problem and it is a fairly easy fix.
