:D I recently made my own Supersonic 2-12 cabinet clone to match my Supersonic 1-12 60watt Combo amp. I dropped in 1-12" 16ohm 50watt Weber Blue Dog, and 1-12" 16ohm 50watt Weber Silverbell wired in parallel to achieve 8ohms. What an awesome desicision! The tone is absolutly increadible! Not only do the two speakers compliment each other, but they compliment the Celestion Vintage 30 as well. The amp now has bottom end and punch, and is much fuller sounding. Before hooking up the cabinet, the Celestion just sounded "mid-rangy". I highly reccommend this modification with these speakers. I don't think there will be anyone disappointed. After all, it's all about tone.

Sounds like an awesome addition to your rig, Kev!

And it's good to see you did your engineering homework as far as speaker impedance goes to keep the total load "legal".

How about some pics?

RAWK ON!

However, I'm an idiot. I don't know how to post photos. Maybe you could help? Also, I'm not a hobbyist. How do I get that off of my profile?Any suggestions. I remember times before computers, and the phone never left your home. -Ha, Ha, Ha! or rather, LOL!

Here's a "tutorial" which should explain all, Kev......

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... highlight=

I build my own cabs now so I"m really interested in seeing yours.

And you'll remain a "hobbyist" until you post sufficiently enough to graduate to the next level. IOW, we all start out as gomers.

Here are two photos of the cabinet. The top one is with the combo on top of the cabinet, and the bottom one is just of the cabinet. The "Fender" badge is off of an old Fender HM4-12 cabinet which was a hunk of particle board junk with really crappy speakers. The Supersonic clone does have the appropriate handle, but you can't see it in the photo, along with pop-out casters. The whole thing is wrapped in blonde tolex and oxblood grill cloth. The only thing it does'nt have is the "kick-back" legs, but those can be put on later. I made this out of 13ply birch with poplar internal bracing. I made this because I could not by an empty cabinet with the same dimensions. 32"x21"x12". I also made it with an optional open back, which is not availabe on the factory made cabinet. Oh yeah, I made it for half the price, even with the speakers!

A superb example of real craftsmanship, Kev. The convertible back is a nice touch as well.

Here's something I dreamed up a few years back......

Image

The amp began life in 1980 as a garden-variety 1 x 10 Princeton combo. I built a 2 x 12 Dual Showman type enclosure for the speakers (a pair of vintage JBL 16Ω K120s) while a custom-made box cradles the chassis. I call it my "Dual Porch Weasel". Loudest 12-watt amp on the planet -- probably oughta be in the Guinness Book.

There's nothing like the fumes from DAP contact cement to rot one's brain!

Arjay,

Wow! that is really cool. I would love to hear it. I'm impressed. I love old tube amps! And yes, Dap contact cement fumes are something to behold. It is amazing how well it sticks. One better know exactly where they're going to stick that piece of tolex, or they're going to have a hellava time getting it off. Do you have anymore cabinets that your going to build? Would you ever build cabs for money? That question was asked to me after I built the Supersonic clone, and I don't know if I could get what I would want to charge. I mean you can get an empty 2-12 for around $250.00, and with all the time one would have to put into it, you would'nt be able to recoup your time.

You're right, Kev. With Mojo, JD Newell, and others selling ready-made cabs for pretty reasonable prices, I don't think a one-man shop could make a dime on a deal like that. I've built a few on commission that were custom-sized for special clients but I doubt that I cleared fifty bucks on a $300 job. Most of my work actually centers on restorations. I'll be starting on a '67 Showman amp head very shortly.

Arjay,

Is the restoration on the Showman for a client, or is it one of your own? You seem to have a nice collection of amps from your photo. I wish I had'nt sold a lot of the amps I've had over the last 25 years.

This Showman is mine. My brother out in California snagged it off of C/L for three hundred bucks.

Hey, what part of "the territory" do you live in?

Arjay,

I live out in Gilbert. about 120 miles from the Tombstone territory. That Showman was a sweet find for $300.00. Some people just don't know what they have.

Yeah......crack/meth has that effect.

I know where Gilbert is but truth be told, I've never been there before (never been to "the canyon" either -- and I've lived here since '84!).

If you ever need any cab info you can PM me direct at......

<phantoms4ever(at)cox(dot)net>

I document all of my builds with photos, sketches, etc -- happy to share if you need them.
