Hi all,

I picked up a used Blues Junior NOS and noticed a metal plate on the back that said "Fender Limited Edition". It's not in any promotional photographs of the amp on Musicians Friend or Guitar Center.

Now I know this has the different speaker than the standard BJ, but I was wondering if there was something extra special, or if the boys at Fender just wanted to get rid of a few left over plates.

Tubes look the same, MIM, sounds pretty normal.

Any ideas?

Actually it says GENUINE LIMITED EDITION.

It is a tweed. Not a tolex.

There you have it then -- the tweed furniture and the upgraded speaker qualify it as a "limited edition".

people/companies throw around the words "limited edition".
i guess its up to the buyer if its limited in his/her eyes.
im curious as to what makes them limited as well.
i have one, ive seen several. they dont seem so limited to me.
i wonder how many they made?
100? 500? 1,000?
maybe its limited as to which dealer got them.
GC and musicians friend are the only two i believe.
even then i still dont see the "limited" part of it.

let me give an example thats not directely related.
i have a couple reef aquariums.
some of the more expensive corals and frags are LE.
"limited edition".
i couldnt understand what was so dang limited about them.
i mean, did God stop making them or something?
so in doing some searching i got my answer.
it was the fact that these corals were rare in nature to start with.
only 2 companies have permission to harvest these corals.
they take the corals and frag them up and distribute the frags
out to the public.
its not that God stoped making them, it was the fact that
only 2 companies have permission to collect them and only then so many per yr.
ok so the frags get sold and they go to new owners that raise the frags
into big corals. then they frag those and the frags get sold to new owners and on so down the line.
eventually they get spread out around the reefing community and then they will now longer be valuable or "limited".

so back to the NOS blues jr.
what makes these amps so limited in the first place?

The Blues Jr has had many different special runs. Due to the popularity of the NOS, when Fender ran out of them they just manufactured another batch, then another, then another..

There really isn't anything "limited" to them. I grabbed one that happens to have the plaque which you mention, but I believe recent Jr's have stopped being appointed them. What you have is a NOS NOS

Awesome-sounding amp by the way  Mine has given me zero problems during the year that I've had her.

No doubt it is a great sounding amp. Couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price.

I did do a little digging and a wikipedia article on the BJ reveals that Fender occasionally releases "limited" batches to specific retailers. These may have different speakers (alt Jensens, etc) but not much else makes them distinct. However I get the impression they are only "limited" by the number they can manufacture and sell.
