The PR is a fine amp, Six. You made a wise choice.

The Super Sonic 22 got a pretty cold review from GP magazine Oct. 2010. They couldn't get it to sound decent above 4 on the volume control which is pretty much the way I found it. Below 4 they liked it. Maybe a tube or speaker change? I wonder if anyone actually really test these amps with real musicians before releasing them to the public?

Fender certainly has plenty of real musicians working for them.

I think to be fair I should say that I tested this amp in a store with (A) a guitar off the shelf, and (B) no pedals at all.

I don't switch my bassman on without my visual sounds compressor turned on also, I use a lot of comp in my sound, I'm betting the 22 watt SS would have come alive with a little help from that little white box.

I also am completely sold on the sound of alnico speakers.

In the real world lets face it most mass produced amps need a little modding to sound the way we want them to.

At the time of testing I still had and was playing my $3000.00 Clark Piedmont and a Victoria 20112 (deluxe).

SO.......

I've never felt the need to mod any of the amps I've ever owned in 40+ years except maybe tube brands/type or speakers. If I felt the amp wasn't "right' for me it stayed on the stores floor. But then again, I never buy an amp or guitar mail order. If I can't come close to bonding with it, I won't buy it. I've tried tons of boutique amps, some I drool over, some are just nicely built mediocre sounding, overpriced amps. Price or name brands never really impressed me in the least. Doesn't matter if it's a $3,000 amp or a $30 amp I found at flea market. Tone and reliability are the only thing that counts for me. Pretty much the only pedals I use except for a wah, I built and tweaked myself. I'm more of a plug and play guy.
