Hey all,

I have a 65 twin reverb that has little hum when I turn it on to play, but if I turn the standby on and then switch it off again there is a very loud hum/noise that is introduced. The tone is not affected, just the addition of the noise. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thanks.

Hum is changing with the volume control ? More volume more hum ?

If no change in volume: It's probably a filter cap , or solder in this section.
If change with volume; remove the tube before your 6L6's, the 12AT7.
No hum; problem in your preamp section
Hum; test your power tubes , 6L6's

Yry thoses test and come back on the forum

So as it turns out it has something to do with the reverb. The reverb still works, but it's when I turn it on that the noise starts. I checked the wiring, which all looks good and I think all the tubes are okay. Can't figure out what is causing the noise.

Welcome to the forum, Zeroite, nice amp ! The amp is fine until the reverb is switched on? If you're sure V2,V3, and V4 are in good shape, then I'd try cleaning the tube sockets and the reverb cable plugs with contact cleaner. Those cables are kind of famous for oxidation problems. If you don't have any cleaner, at least give them a couple of gentle twists(1/4 turn) when they are plugged into the back of the amp and at the tank. Art

C'est pour ca que dans ce type d'ampli j'enlève toujours V4 pour isoler le vib/reb du canal direct.
T'en pense quoi?

In this kind of ampl, I always isolate vib/reb by removing first V4.

Bonne idée Tissan, faut toujours commencer par les lampes.

Yes, always check tubes first
