Sorry if this sounds lame.
I plan to remove the original Eminence speaker & replace it with a Webber ceramic. Is it as easy as it looks i.e just a matter of removing the cross head screws. I just wondered what they screwed into, probably a fixed nut too the baffle I hope as I don't fancy removing any speaker cloth.
I realise I will probably also need to remove the chasis from the cabinet.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
A newbie modder

Remove chassis
Remove Speaker
Replace speaker
Replace chassis

Done deal unless you wreck something.
Make sure the speaker ohms match your amp's specs which if it's a Blues Deluxe Reissue like mine, it's an 8 ohm.

Thanks Twinhit.
Seems you have some experience with hot rod models?
Have you undertaken many mods with your Blues Deluxe?

When you disconnect the speaker jack from the chassis, be sure when you replace it, you don't plug it into the extension speaker jack. Speakers are easy. Don't over-tighten the speaker to the baffle so you don't warp the basket.

Your welcomed, billy.

The only "modification" is a blue jewel for the pilot light. 8)

There is a guy in northern Cali who modifies this amp (Ben Farten is his name). You send your chassis in and he'll swap out some components.
About $300 bucks if I remember right.

You can check out how his mod sounds to you for yourself here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_u1wZB6OWQ

Remember, there will no doubt be some coloration to the tone due to
your puter's speakers and what not but it would offer a general direction
so take what you hear with a grain of salt.

What supro said about being sure you plug back into the correct jack.
Also, if not using the same cable/plug, be sure to use cable/plug rated
for speakers - they look like an instrument cable but differ in their capacity.

Fargen makes nice amps, but his mods do nothing for me and he's pretty pricey. In that youtube video the amp sounded like arse. If you're trying to sell mods, at least mic the amp. It sounded like there was a towel over the speaker and ths drive still sounded nasty. LOL
He has another one where he modded an Egnater Rebel 20 new trannies and all and IMO it sounded pretty bad too. My motto is if it ain't broke, don't fix it and if you need to mod an amp that heavily, maybe it's time to sell it, move on and get something better. I did.

The only sensible mod for this amp IMO is the "Adamowicz Treatment". All vestiges of the original "sins" are swept away and the amp is rightfully returned to its roots.

It such a shame to put one of TJ's works of art in such a cheaply made pressboard cabinet. :?

Well there you go guys.
Modded the amp today with a Weber Vin f150 cermic. Mainly because I liked the sound then the price because as it was twice the price to install the alnico version.
Swapped the tubes out for Harma Ecc 83 str & svetlana 6l6 GC winged
Biased at around 75. Now it sound clean and sparkly and breaks up when pushed. Even the second chanel sounds usable though I think I prefer to use my Boss Blues Driver for the crunch.
The chasis was a tight fit to get out and a worse job to get back in. Other than that all seemed to go well.

Good deal, you got there and back alive.
Remember, when price enters the picture, it's always about tone.
I'm inclined to save toward a Bassman and in the meantime, build an
convertable external cab for the future fancy speaker selection I have in mind.

Basically, I'd keep the speakers, mounted to their baffles and stored in a closet like cabinet, then whenever I want to switch out speakers, I do so.
It's more laboratory in approach than an otherwise straight up xternal cab.

Hi point taken.
One of my main concerns in choosing this amp was it's portability. I have still in my possesion a Marshall 2X12 100w which is a beast to carry around. As I am not in the 1st throws of youth I purchased a HRD that seemed to tick all the boxes until it died a couple of weeks ago. It was in the tech's shop when I decided to purchase this Blues Deluxe and use the HRD as a spare.
I had changed out the tubes some months ago and was pleased with the outcome but was dissapointed with the new one when I took it to band rehearsal. I suppose now the bill running at £800 including the mods I could have gone for something else but as I say this now ticks all the boxes for me.

An 11/32" hollow shafted nut driver is extremely useful for removing the speaker nuts.
