Yeah Blues, go with the paint marks. There is a comment by Ted about the polarity of their speakers some where on the Weber forum. But if I recall it says: that since the speakers are AC units there is no real polarity, but the marks are to coordinate the phase relationship, when using more than one speaker. Hey Arjay, haven't visited this thread for a while and didn't realize you went in for surgery. Hope you're back to your old crusty self, Pronto ! Art

Thanks, Art. I'm pretty well healed up now. The surgeon did the procedure laproscopically so I only got four small abdominal incisions. She said it was the worst gall bladder she'd ever seen and it was in fact gangrenous. I reckon I'm lucky in that respect.

Funny you should mention that, RS. I have a friend in Texas who keeps pestering me for my '65 Princeton Reverb. Rumor has it that he's got an "Arjay voodoo doll" and a bag full of poisoned hat-pins......

Aw......no matter, RS. My widow will probably have all my stuff posted up on Ebay before the final shovelful of dirt gets tossed on top of my casket.

Hey Supro, e-mail inbound.

The tung-sol reissue 12AX7's get pretty good reviews.

Have yet to find too much on the 5751M by groove tube yet.

I'm working on tweeking a 59 bassman LTD.

I have a NOS 5u4G rectifier tube coming and a set of RI 5881 Tung-sols

A pair (so far) of weber 10" alnicos for the bottom of the cabinet, not sure whats going in the top yet.

The tone chase is on !!!

I think the tung-sol ri's would suite the bassman well. To me they seem to focus more on the mids and lows. Good luck. on your tone chase.

O.K. fellas (I assume) here is where I come clean and honest.
I know just enough about tubes and tube amps for that matter to be dangerous.

I like cooking up tube swaps, Speaker swaps and seeing what nuggets of tonal gold I can come up with.

The amp (59 bassman LTD) went to a tech a couple of days ago, He tells me the bias was set so low its no wonder it sounded sterile even with the new speakers and the tube selection.

He set the bias and OH MY !!!!!! what a difference !!!!!!

PURE SWEETNESS !!!! I have a strong desire to play my guitar again and again, I got up at around 7:30 this morning and ran to my rig.

I really gotta get a bias rite or whatever that thing is called and learn how to do a proper bias, the amp is alive and a completely new animal !

Isn't it amazing what those little glass tubes can contribute to tone when they're working right!
I even love the smell of warm tubes and tolex. 8)

Just a little follow up.
I replaced the one Tung-sol RI in V-1 last night with a NOS GE 5751
The warm tones stayed just about the same, nothing my ears could detect, however the lower gain was an improvement for that stage in that it let me get the bigger bottles over the top faster.
The difference in power tube saturation and overdriven preamp tubes is like night and day.
I did just put that one Tung-sol RI into v-3 so now I have
V-1 NOS GE 5751
V-2 T/S RI 12AX7
V-3 T/S RI 12AX7
V-4 T/S RI 5881
V-5 T/S RI 5881
Rectifier is a NOS Tung-Sol 5U4GB

Still the biggest sound improvement came with the swapping out the RI Jensens for four Webers.

It's all good when the end result is what you're looking for. Nothing like being happy.
