Also to everyone else: just get a small practice amp or even a headphone amp like the Rocktron or Vox models. Seems like a fairly easy solution and probably cheaper and easier to figure out than a "headphone tap" type device.

By the way if you have some kind of mixer lying around or whatever that has a "line in" jack and a "headphone out" then all you have to do is run signal out the pre out jack into the line in and then voila you'll get sound in your headphones.

+1

And the second suggestion permits use of a pedalboard or processing pre-amp.

couple of possible solutions-

do you use a multi- processor? many of them have headphone jacks

or how about something like a vox amplug? for less than 50 bucks you can get something like it, and play your head off.

I just found this thread by googling.

My nephew called me up in a state of near tears. His dad just bought him a used MIM Stratocaster and Fender Princeton FM 65 amp. They get it home and no headphone jack. I said there has to be one and to bring it over.

Sure enough  No friggin headphone jack!!!!

I gave the distraught lad a G-Dec and he's happy as pie....

What gives? I have a half dozen Fender SS amps and they all have Headphone jacks. I understand no jack on my Fender tubes but an SS?

'Knock, Knock. anybody home in Fenderland? I've collected your guitars and amps for decades. You are usually a sane company but what were the suits thinking that day? 'Gee, let's save 2 bucks and leave out the headphone jack" It's like like Raleigh building a bicycle and declaring 'who needs handlebars?....scrap them'.

I collect Fender because of quality. They don't put out 'iffy' products (well, that's now an overstatement)

Twenty or twenty-five years ago, headphone jacks were common on the smaller solid-state platforms (my Made-In-Taiwan Sidekick Switcher had one) but of late they seem to have fallen out of favor. Why? Who knows.

Not to be a contrarian (I just joined) but I have bought at least 40 to 50 SS used but relatively up to date amps in the last 5 years and everyone 'except' this one has an Headphone Jack...these include Roland, Vox and Laney brands, etc. (and ALL the other Fender SS amps). Obviously from the title of this thread the Fender MM212R doesn't have one ...but my FM212 DSP has one. Makes no sense.

Fender should listen to its customers. This is what has made Fender number one in the world.

I heartily concur.

However, today's consumer seems more than willing to prefer, or at least abide, junk. And companies continue to provide what their customer base demands.

Fender does listen to its customers, and for certain amps, includes headphone outs. As you move up their amp food chain from entry-level beginner/practice amps, it's assumed you'll want more power/volume, more features, and have less of a need for a headphone jack. If Fender hears that everyone wants them on amps like the Frontman AND is willing to pay for the additional circuitry, great. I doubt that many people are willing to add cost and that feature to those other amps so their line will stay as is, which is fine.

You have plenty of options to lower your volume with your current amp, or sell it and get one with the features you want. Fender offers a wide range of amps for a wide range of abilities, features and price.

Perhaps. Don't know why less need. Do they advertize that their FM 65 amps are not suited for apartments, home use, etc.?
the FM 15 DSP has one

the FM 65 DSP doesn't

the FM 212 DSP does

It's nothing to do with a food chain. A SS amp can support headphones It only akes sense not to use them on tube models.

Well thankfully someone assessed the arbitrary applying of it, and now I notice that on current amps (not discontinued amps like the FM DSP):

Again, it's assumed headphone outs are for beginner/practicing amps - they're not needed on the whole line. Let's look at how many Fender currently has with headphones:

G-DEC - all 4 have headphone outs
Mustang Series - all 4 have headphone outs
Frontman: the 10, 15, 25 all have headphone outs, the 100 watt 212 does not.

Of all these, I'd argue only the Frontman 212 isn't a beginner/practice amp, and therefore doesn't need a headphone out.

their rationales may have been arbitrary in the past, but it certainly seems like reason came in and fixed that wagon.

As for nothing to do with the food chain, it has everything to do with it. Junior models need headphones because it's a key feature for beginner amps. once you progress past that to something like a 100W SS amp, you're beyond that beginner stage.

I've also heard of a mysterious knob on many Fender amps marked VOLUME. Seems to work on mine.

It could be several years too late for a helpfull advice, but I decided to not leave this topic without answer.

Below I present the way to use the headphones on the Fender Frontman 212R and mute the speakers:

Some facts:
- all inputs/outputs in this amp are mono jacks 6,3mm
- headphones are usualy 3,5mm stereo jack
- You will need appropriate adapter ;) From male mono 6,3 jack to female stereo. It is really hard to get such, better to do it by yourself.

1. Plug your adapter into PRE OUT
2. Plug the headphone into adapter
3. To the PWR IN plug some not connected 6,3 mono jack/cable/adapter to mute the speakers

Enjoy ;)
