I have a 25R and love using the headphone jack for practice when I don't want to bother the family. It's a great little amp and works well with pedals. There are a ton of these available used at real reasonable prices. I have 8 or 9 Fender Amps in my personal collection and the larger amps don't get much use. My 212R and Stage 160 DSP don't accept headphones and really are too large to drag out for practice. Even with the casters on the Stage 160 DSP it's tough manuvering around. The 15G and 15R also have headphones as does the 15DSP and I've seen them all over for $25 or so. I actually purchased about 30 of these and a few other Fender amps for less than $50 total for the 30. Repaired a few and gave some other away. Keep the 212R for playing but pick up a 25R, 15R or one of the others used. A friend just picked up a 65R with headphone jack used for $60. They are out there and you really do not have to have a new one just for practice.

I am not the original poster but do I have a Frontman 25R on order (won't ship until late August). For some reason the black version is out of stock online(Guitar Center, Musicians-friend, etc). The gaudy red one is in stock but the black one is backordered. I ordered it for taking with me on trips. My wife is a photography nut and we end up traveling 2-3 times a month and staying at hotels. I figure it would be good for the trips and in the back yard. I am glad to hear that it is pedal friendly. I wouldn't mind attaching a chorus pedal and maybe a Wah pedal to it.

I did not know that any of the 65R amps had a headphone jack installed. I guess I need to pop into GC sometime soon.

A friend of mine has the 65DSP, I mistakenly said R, and it has the head phone jack. He got that one because he lives in an apartment too. It's really too large to travel but the 25R, or any of its varient, is easy to travel with. You won't be sorry. I agree with that red one being putrid. A Fender amp just should not be coloured red.

I received a response from Fender Today reference the lack of headphone jacks on their amps (especially the tube amps). The rep simply stated that it sounded like a good idea to include a headphone jack and that he would pass it along to the design team.

I would have thought that they would get requests for inclusion of a headphone jack a lot!

I also asked him about the current scarcity of (black) Frontman 25R amps online and he stated that they are made in Indonesia and that even a small hiccup could cause a backup in production. Also once they finally get production run, the amps come over by boat and then wait to pass inspection. I am still looking forward to getting mine in August.

I have the 25R and it really is a nice little solid-state amp.
I thought about a second one to "tweak" with speakers and possibly make a 2x10 Twin and or third one to "rackmount" under my computer monitor for recording purposes. The 25R is a dandy amp plus it's got that blackface look going for it.

In the meantime, you might try out a mini-twin. I love mine.
It doesn't sound too bad through it's cab speakers and it has a phone jack plus ac/dc jack to plug into the wall - when plugged in it is much louder.
I am hard of hearing and if it works for me, it should work for others
:D

Also, Fender ought to consider building these little headphone taps or...
contract Weber to make them with the Fender logo and market it.
I think Weber would sell more that way.

That is the same thing that I wrote to them. I would like to see headphone capability built into their amps and if not that then they should sell headphone taps that work well with their amps.

A real good friend of mine is the head of R&D for the bass amp department. I will have to ask him about the headphone jacks the next time I see him.

Certainly, I don't get to talk to him often since he was transfered to Scottsdale from Corona, but when I do I will ask and pass it along.

I just received a response from Scottsdale Arizona...

"Sadly there is no way to use headphones with this amp, and there is no
way to modify the amp for that use."

I'm sure there is a way to modify it, but it would certainly void the warranty!

I am sorry to hear that. I am still hoping to run into some electrical engineering genius that will hook me up. Now I wish that I had paid better attention in electronics class when I was in high school.

Well, guess I don't need to ask him. But ya know.. just for the h**l of it, I will chat with him about it the next time I see him. Whenever that is... He is in R&D so who knows.

well from past experiences I do know that 90% of the amps that I've tried with headphone jacks, the sound is never very good in comparison to the speaker. Last one I've tried was the Bugera V5 all tube amp....I returned it the next day.

Multi-fx units with good speaker emulation sound 100 times better imo.

But if you must have the Frontman, the 25R is a great amp judging from the sound clips I've heard. although I've never heard it with headphones though.

No headphone jack? That sucks. I had just decided this was the amp I was going to buy. Now it's back to square one. Hey Fender, not everybody has a place in the home to play at any level without disturbing someone else. It's like buying a car with no speedometer..........what gives.

It should have been $399 but it was tagged with $259 (the same price as the outdated model). I took it straight to the counter, paid and left. Not only did I get it for $140 less than the online price, but I used a store credit I had so that I did not have to pay a cent.

Congrats on getting an awesome deal! But...you really did have to pay a cent right? I mean the reason you had a store credit I'm assuming is because of something else you paid for but took back previously? Just wondering on this, no offense.

Also to everyone else: just get a small practice amp or even a headphone amp like the Rocktron or Vox models. Seems like a fairly easy solution and probably cheaper and easier to figure out than a "headphone tap" type device.

By the way if you have some kind of mixer lying around or whatever that has a "line in" jack and a "headphone out" then all you have to do is run signal out the pre out jack into the line in and then voila you'll get sound in your headphones.
