Are these pretty much the same amp, just with some changes to the appearance? Or are there any major internal differences between the 2? From what I can tell they look almost identical, but thought I'd ask to see what was up. Thanks.

The speakers are the same model, but newer version.

The Frontman uses the traditional Fender silver grille cloth and blackface control panel.

No other differences. Both are excellent solid state choices.

New cosmetics and 'Frontman' as opposed to 'FM". More in keeping with a tradtional look I'd say, and all across the 'Frontman' line. You can see them all in the publication 'Frontline at Home.'

Thats my main issue with the new Frontline at Home format, I can see the pretty picture, but was hoping for more info than what is available on the net or spec sheet.

Guitar Center's website offers the ability to consult them on technical matters regarding gear. I had the same question regarding the Frontman and they answered it in kind........... much cosmetics on the 212R.

Solid state uses silcon chips to amplify your guitar signal versus tubes/valves.

I have since got my Frontman 212R.
I'm happy enough with it,it satisfies my needs for the moment.
Despite it being on the lower end of the Fender scale I am enjoying it, with my American Vintage '52 Tele reissue.
All I need to do now is concentrate on improving my skills

I have the 212R. It gives me everything from clean to super dirty. I'm still tweaking the settings, but getting crunch out of this thing is no problem. I haven't had the volume past 2.5 and it makes the room shake. I wish it had built in effects, but this fit my budget as opposed to the DSP model. You can hear what it sounds like on my site.

the biggest differences that i can see is that the fm has built in amp modeling and effects

the frontman does not have this.........

There are two different FM212R's. One is just an FM212R with no DSP. The other has DSP effects built in and costs a little more than the other.
