Hey all, I have a supersonic 112 (which I love<understatement), but last night at practice, the gain channel started to squeal: like a low buzz/squeal that was very noticeable. The guitar was still coming through the noise. My drummer knocked out the extension my amp was plugged into and that's when the noise started. But at the end of practice, the squealing stopped. I bought the amp used/like new (so no warranty unfortunately) and it came with its stock tubes. I know the supersonic is a noisy amp, but the squeal definitely was not normal. I'm fairly new to tube amps so I guess I'm wondering if I should still check the tubes (preamp?) out even though the noise stopped?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just to make sure. It wasn't a reverb induced squeal from the jolt was it?? Anyway I would start by substituting preamp tubes till you find the noisy one.

Hmm. Yeah, my reverb was up a bit, like at 2. So when you say switch out the preamps, u mean go one by one until I don't hear the noise? The squealing went away by the end of practice, but I'm guessing the problem wouldn't just self correct. But switching out the preamps won't be too hard so I'll try that. Thanks

Hi there - earlier this week I was experimenting with old tubes for the V5 position (used for the tube-driven FX loop) and I had the same issue. So, try swapping 12AX7 tubes in V5 to see if this fixes the problem.

Ok, after practice, narrowed down the bad tube to the 2nd Gain. When I turn the knob all the way up, no sound or difference in gain happens. Does anyone know which preamp tube position that is? And where do you find out which preamp tube affects what? Thanks

Ok, everything is cool. Found out it was a microphonic squeal and it actually can self correct. Thanks for tips
