I like my Pro Jr. It's an awsome little amp. I got it just for practice and I couldn't be happier.

They should have made it without the cheesy effects. They wrecked a perfectly good amp by making it a hybrid. They did the same thing to the Vibro Champ. It really didn't really need the effects to sell the amp. The effects just pollute the tone of the amp. It's a shame. And yeah I did get to spend some time with it. A friend of mine tried to pawn one off on me.

Don't think of it as a hybrid amp; think of it as a tube amp with a new way to control the gain without cranking it up.

It still will operate like any other tube amp if you choose voicing 1 or 4 and crank the gain and volume.

Is that a Boss DS-1 on top of that Stage 185? I love that pedal!!!

Yup. That's a venerable DS-1 sitting on top of the Stage.

I'm in dire need to build a new pedal board, though.

I'd like to have a decent wah, a Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker, and an Electric Mistress. My pedals have been reduced to a BBE AM64, the DS1, and a CE-5.

But, I can't quit buying other stuff. I found a special edition Hot Rod Deluxe for only $350 (it's the Oxblood/Brown model). I'm in the process of getting some funds together to buy it right now. I just can't pass it up. I could use a good tube amp that I could gig with. The Stage, while it offers an excellent clean tone, is SS and the VCXD is best used for recording or practice.

If you are looking for the cheapest quality practice amp, I suggest the Champion 110. It has 2 channels, one a fairly nice clean sound. The other channel is a distortion/gain style channel that sounds pretty bad. It is a solid state amplifier. If you can find a pedal that really adds some thick distortion this Champion 110 would work. You can probably find one for less than $20 online or at a pawn shop. Its not the loudest amp but I believe is rated at about 25 watts. Its loud enough that if you had room mates they would ask you to turn it down. Its got a built in reverb circuit but you must keep it turned down. Once you go for a surf style reverb it gets very noisy, poppy, and weird. Overall the amp is a very nice solid state beginner amp. Especially the clean fender style tones. Like I mentioned previously you will need a distortion pedal, possibly the Boss DS-1. Now if you have a few more bucks then I would definitely consider the Super Champ, Vibro Champ, Champion 600, G-DEC, or if possible the kings or all Fender "first amps" the Pro Jr. or Blues Jr. Both are excellent tube amps that really can deliver. They can also be upgraded as you gain more experience. Anymore questions let us know.

Blackstar HT 5. Great little 5 watt valve amp. Very affordable with wicked tone. I tried one at the shop the other day and it blew me away.
