"Speaker flab" is a commonly-reported malady for the DRRI and it doesn't seem to matter whether it's the OEM Eminence or the C12K Jensen. Many users report a "cure" when switching to a Weber alnico or a hemp-cone Tone Tubby. Personally, I put my DRRI chassis into a taller cab and installed a vintage fifteen-inch JBL. No flab, no flatulence with a D130F.

Man I hate to go that route... I love the sweet tones out of this amp, but since I play mainly at home these days I hear all these minor headaches and it gets annoying! Maybe I should play at lower volumes :)

I was doing some reading online and read about the Fritz mod that helps with this issue, are you familiar with it?

That would be "Fritz Mod #2", actually.

It is effective for those DRRI's with a seriously pesky bottom end problem.

Only attempt this if you are adept with a soldering pencil and have the requisite patience. If you hose up the PCB using excessive heat, your amp is toast. And all electrical safety protocols apply.

Yeah #2 not the original... and I won't be attempting this on my own! changing tubes or speakers is as far as I can go :)

I do have a question for you tho... since this is my 2nd DRRI, and I played both at the same volume, on the same channel, with the same guitar, but I'm only experiencing this on the 2nd one :? how is that possible? Fender quality?

Honestly, it's hard to say. There are perhaps a half dozen variables at play in this situation.

It does seem like the newer editions of these re-issues have more problems than the older ones. Both of mine (DRRI and TRRI) were built at Brea in the mid '90s and neither of them have had any problems whatsoever.

I'd have it looked at since its under warranty. I've had my DRRI for a few month and love it. Thank god its under warranty, 2nd. to last song at my last gig it died on me, while doing a solo to end the song. I finished the night plugged into the keyboard players 2nd. amp. Of course it was the one time I didn't bring a back-up. anyways I'd have it looked at so its on record in case of future problems. Great amp and tone, good luck with yours.

Well it's within 30 days so I can still take it back to GC...

Sorry to hear about yours! What happened to it exactly? Have you had it looked at yet? So I take it yours is also a newer DRRI, maybe there's some quality issues here... and I thought the Hot Rods were the only ones with issues!

oh man sorry to hear that, hopefully with the new transformer it will sound even better :)

Well I picked up a Deluxe cab yesterday so I can experiment with some speakers and at the same time hope to get rid of some of the rattles at higher volumes... I'll report back soon. Anyone have experience with the Celestion G12P-80 that comes with this cab? I also have a V30 that I will try... I read that the Celestion Gold is a great fit for the DRRI, could that be the speaker I'm looking for? I want to maintain the tone I'm getting from the stock Jensen speaker and at the same time get some tight bass that seems to lack at higher volumes.
