Oh no not another DRRI thread! :)

I just got mine yesterday and couldn't help myself, had to share my excitement! This is exactly what I was looking for, the tone that comes out of this thing is something else! I wasn't sure what to expect... but the combination of a DRRI and the Fralin Blues Specials is tone heaven for me!

Those two together are getting way too much attention... my 335 sounds amazing thru the DRRI too! couldn't be happier!

I do have a question... this was brand new still in box amp, do I need to worry about breaking in the speaker? I notice a slight rattle, could be tube rattle at higher volume, specially when playing low notes, is that normal?

Rattle is not normal, bring it back to the dealer.

The tubes are covered for 30 or 60 days. Tell them you want a new set. You need to find which one is rattling. If it's a 6V6 power tube, be sure you get a pair. Not to add to your grief, but bhe bias should be checked too.

That's why I always check an amp out in the store.

What and spoil the fun of unboxing my new toy at home? :) seriously tho, there's no way I would've heard that rattle in the store, not with all the noise around...

Ok so I checked everything, screws seem tight, nothing loose, removed the top panel, it could very well be the rectifier, it mostly happens when I play a G, tube rattle, playing low notes sound more like the cab itself is rattling. I have the vol at 6.

I would hate to have to take it back, I really love the way it sounds!

Here's what you do. Hit a G then touch each tube with a chopstick or a pencil eraser. If the rattle stops, that's the culprit. Sweet amp though and congrats.

Get yourself a 5/16" nut driver and check all the keps holding the speaker to the baffle. They should be about 20 inch/pounds, about a ¼ turn more snug than finger tight.

Thanks, I'll give that a try! Any recommendation for the cab rattle? Is it possible it's those shields on the preamp tube rattling? Any harm running without them there?

Leave the shields on.

Funny you mention that, couldn't find any deep sockets with the right size, mine is actually 11/32", but I was able to at least check them and they seem ok.

Thanks supro for the pencil tip, it's definitely the rectifier!

Sorry to hear that on a new amp. At least it's an easy fix.

Grab yourself a new 5AR4 and you should be back on the road.

Glad to hear you found the problem.

Supro and Arjay, thank you both!

I really hope that's all it is, I still believe there is some rattle coming from the cab, but let's take care of the rectifier first and go from there.

Where would you recommend getting the rectifier from? Eurotubes says they're out of GZ34... I wanna make sure whatever I put in there won't give me any headaches in a few days!

I think the Tung-Sol re-issue is adequate for the task and you can find one pretty quickly on Ebay.
