I have this amp that is not that old. It had new tubes installed by the guitar shop. It has been running smoothly ever since. I was playing today for about 2 hours at medium volume and it was making the occasional cracking noise then it cut out. After it cut out it made horrible noises i had to turn it off instantly. I can't run it for more than 2 minutes and it does this everytime. Has anyone had this isuue? Anyone have any ideas? :?:

All this at your own risk.

Make sure you remove all pedals from the chain and play directly into the amp. Also use the amp power cable direct to the wall and if possible try another wall socket. See how that goes.

Then try just leaving the cable in by itself no guitar. Then try no cable and no guitar.

If it still makes noise power off at the amp and the wall. Let the tubes cool and carefully remove the preamp tubes (warning they can get hot). Run the amp without preamp tubes and if it still makes noise after that then its more than likely an output tube. Your not of course going to be able to play guitar during this.

You can also tap the tubes gently one at a time with something similar to a chopstick (handle of a small wooden spoon? something non-conductive) with the amp powered up and volume turned up.

This is good for checking if a tube is micro-phonic or squealing (needs replacing). The other thing is just to let the tubes cool down then pull out and reseat all the tubes. Most other diagnosis requires some basic electronics knowledge. You can break tubes legs if your not careful as well. Read up on the best way.

Bear in mind dangerous voltages apply. If you want to play it safe and also avoid accidentally damage your amp then take it back to the tech.
Especially if its under warranty there's no need for you to work on it at all.

If it was chewing lots of tubes and under warranty I'd seek a complete replacement. It is a costly exercise replacing tubes once out of warranty.

Since how long you have new tubes ? Wich tubes ? 6L6 ?

If is 6L6, and they are new since couple days/hour before making noise, return to your guitar shop. New tubes could be bad and ask for a waranty replacement.

Question: is your guitar shop have a GOOd tech ? Did it make a new bias on those new tubes ( 6L6)
He MUST do that unless short tube live and/or bad tone

My experience with my blues junior doing this was a bad tube seat that needed to be resoldered. If your amp is within the warranty period take it in and have it serviced. If it is new return it for another. Also make sure your tubes are seated these amps can be notorious for tubes vibrating loose or becoming loose when moving it around a lot. good luck.
