Hi Harley,

I use 2 SE's sometime 3. I set them up with different effects, separated on stage, usually there's a delay in one of them. I play surf, and with 2 to 3 SE's, I get an incredible 3-D like sound. I describe how to control up 16 SE's using the foot controller in the cyber commander manual.

I sure would like to know how make out, please let me (us) know! Good luck with everything, let me know if I can help.

ciao,
johnny.

Hi Johnny,

I completely understand what kind of sound you are talking about. I get something like that now with one of my A/DA rigs. One of my racks has three rigs with independent effects to each one. I'm currently adding a 4th setup in it and programming it to match the others, so what I'm planning for the SE's is very much along the same line, except that I'm planning to run the line outs from the SE's through a Rane SM-26 splitter/mixer, then sending those signals to vintage Twin Reverbs and to the Mixing Desk.

I only use this large setup for the outdoor gigs (Hippie Fests, Hog Roasts, etc...)

I use a Voodoo Labs Ground Control and GCX units to run the A/DA gear, and may try to use that for the SE's as well since it can be programmed to do everything that the Cyber Foot Controller does, but I'll still get the Cyber Foot Controller too.

The ultimate big picture here is to eventually incorporate the SE setup that I described earlier with the A/DA rig that I use now, and control them all with one central foot controller. If that doesn't work out that way, I can always A/B/Y switch the two systems, and add the Cyber Foot Controller to the floor. One way or another, I'm the guy who can get it to work, and I'll definitely keep in touch with you about how it goes

I've been a long time Fender Devotee before I got into the A/DA, and never completely got away from Fender, it's always been a vital part of my tone. Many of the presets I've programmmed into the A/DA preamps, are based on my Fender amp tones, and the SE's offer me a way to make those more authentic and natural sounding, but with the added dimensions of the amp tones the Fenders could not get.

Provided that Fender does not drop the Cyber Twin from it's catalog, which is the main concern for this thread :!:

Hi Harley,

Actually you can control all the SE's with the foot controller using the MIDI PASS-THRU. All SE's have to be set to same TX and RX channel number. Use Cyber Commander to program each SE individually (Player's Lounge) in sequence (from Preset 0 to 99). Make sure the MIDI Map position 0 points to Player's Lounge 0, and (the last being MIDI Map 99 pointing to Player's Lounge 99). The foot controller pumps out "MIDI Map" positions (0 to 127). For example, when the Foot Controller pumps out "11", it is pumping out MIDI Map position 11 to the SE. If SE's MIDI Map 11 position should then point to Player's Lounge 11 (actually the SE MIDI Map can be programmed to point any Player's Lounge, Your Amp, or Custom Shop setting - it depends on what you want the MIDI Map to do). With the MIDI PASS-THRU, all SE' will be commanded to MIDI Map "11". Assuming they are set as described, they'll all point their own Player's Lounge 11. Everything I have described here is a short version of Chapter 14 in the Cyber Commander manual. I highly recommend Cyber Commander to setup the SE's.

I totally agree, the SE is the most incredible amp made in guitar player history. Years after buying the amp, I am still amazed by what it can do. I (we) developed Cyber Commander so that the SE's full range of capability can put at your finger tips in one glance. I get too passionately involved with SE and Cyber Commander so i must sound like some kinda high priest. You have to try the SE and Cyber Commander to really see what happens, i think you'll become just as passionate.

Like you, I think dumping the SE would be a gross tradegy, especially considering the SE never really got off the ground mainly due to poor Fender support and the amp being really difficult to understand. I believe this is to close to reality because this was the predicament I was in when I first bought the amp. I knew the SE had/has great potential, the question was how to unlock it and that's how Cyber Commander got created. With my very limited resources, I vowed I would do a much better job than Fender and I think succeed with Cyber Commander. Again, we are very, very small, but the product we offer beats out anything out there, has novel graphical Player's Lounge and MIDI Map editors, and a what-you-see-is-what-your-hear control panel. And no software bugs for two years running. Once you discover what you can do with the SE and Cyber Commander, all other amps fall to the side, I now use the SE's exclusively. I'll admit to having one JC-120 on the side at home, it's an old friend.

ciao,
johnny.

Hi Johnny,

I disagree with you about the Cyber Twin being hard to understand, in fact, from everything I've seen with it, it looks to be quite the opposite to me. The interface is the most user-friendly I've seen in any amp in this class, easy to dial in, and easy to save and recall. I had hoped to see this kind of user-friendly interface develope in the A/DA preamps, but they dissappeared instead. With that being said, programming and using these amps, is a non-issue for me.
When I buy my first Cyber Twin, I will get the Cyber Commander to help me with the setup, there's no question about that. The real question at this point is: Will I be buying a new Cyber Twin or will I only be able to buy a used one?
If you read my post earlier about the way I intend to use the Cyber Twins, you'll recall that I have every intention of using them through my old silverface Twins via the line outs from the CTs. This should tell you that the heart of the whole thing is more about TONE :!:
I would prefer to buy these amps new because then I would know the history of the amp from the beginning, plus it would be under warranty. Those are two things I would not have if I am forced to buy them used, especially if there was an issue with the amp that the seller would be afraid to disclose. People do mistreat equipment like this from time to time and it's mostly accidental, which is why I'd prefer not to buy used. No one ever gets rid of something that works, they get rid of things that are giving them problems.

Hmmmm, it appears that the powers that be do not wish to answer the original question.

Hello Gang,

I just got off the phone a short while ago with Fender, and I posed this question directly to them. Here's the answer I got: As of this moment, the Cyber Twin SE is not slated to be discontinued. However, the Cyber Foot Controller has been discontinued.
I spoke with a man named Scott about this, and we did spend a few minutes talking about a possible upgrade to the SE.
I did make a suggestion about adding a poweramp reduction switch to the SE. A switch that could reduce the output of the poweramp to about 20-25 watts per side, but with respect to preserving the tone. I'll explain this.

May of the guitar players in here will know what I'm talking about when I refer to a "sweet spot" with a guitar amp's volume. When you raise the volume to a certain point, the guitar tone seems to 'blossom' and takes on a quality of 'air' to it's tone. It begins to breathe, in a manner of speaking. Every amp will do this, but most will be too loud when you get to this point. A poweramp reduction switch would keep your amp's volume at a usable level, especially if you are playing a smaller club, but without sacrificing your tone to do it.
Does this sound like a reasonable upgrade to this amp?

here's what i found out after visting with sam ash in nyc times square wednesday nite: price for SE + foot controller $1050, sam ash trying to get rid of se's, said they were discontinued.

well, $1050 for SE + foot controller seems like a bargain.

ciao,
johnny.

Is the Cyber-Twin going away?
Sure there will be footprints left behind, but is she really leaving us?

Maybe this will help answer the question
