Hello everyone! I'm currently in the market for a new amplifier, and I've narrowed things down to two choices:

-Egnater Rebel 20 w/ matching 112 cabinets
- Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue

I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed with both amps. Up til now I've been running a Tweed Blues Jr. NOS, but lately I've been feeling the need to take my gear to another level. I'm not particularly picky about my new amp being a combo or a stack. The DRRI has 2 channels, wheras the Egnater is a single channel. I'm not currently in a band, but that's not to say I won't be in the future.

Unforunately I'm unable to physically A/B them. There isn't a dealer where I'm from that carries both Egnater and Fender (how convenient), but each sounded excellent when I played them. The tube mix feature on the Egnater is excellent. The head isn't very strikingly big, either.

Long & Mcquade is my Fender dealer, and June is their "Monster Days" sale. This is an excellent opportunity, as it's my chance to get the DRRI in brown tolex w/ a wheat grill (a factory special run), which I feel is more appealing than the regular black. I also like that it's in one piece for travel.

Very classy.

So what are your thoughts? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I don't think I can go wrong, either way.

Have a good one everybody! Thanks for looking!

I have a drri and am totally pleased with it .I know several people have a Rebel 20 and feel the same way.The rebel might be more versatile if you dont mind turning knobs.I was impressed with both, but I am not much of a knob turner, so I opted for the drri.Personally, you cant go wrong with either amp.Just depends on what you are looking for.

If you want Fender clean, go with the DRRI. If you want versatility, go with the Rebel.

I own the Rebel 20 with two 112 cabs. It's been an incredible amp. It was a toss up for me too. I've owned Fender gear since the 60's so I wanted something different, and wanted more versatility. I sold a HRDlx that gave me nothing but problems. The Rebel has been totally reliable through heavy gigging. If you play with the watts dial you can get close to a Fender Princeton Tweed through almost any other kind of sound you want. You get the bloom of 6V6's or the aggressiveness of the EL84's and anything in between. It can hold it's own with much higher wattage amps and cuts the mix like a knife.

The DRRI is also a great sounding amp has a beautiful sounding reverb and reliable too. I don't miss the reverb and having one channel doesn't really bother me. What I do like about the Rebel that I couldn't get with the DRRI is that I don't need pedals for grit at less than ear splitting levels. I like having just my guitar, cord and amp. The funny thing is, in most normal situations, I only need one cabinet and I don't need to put the cabinet on a chair, it does fine on the floor.

If you can, check out the Egnater Tweaker too. Very cool amp.

There's a lot bigger amp world out there than Fender and Marshall. Egnater is nothing new. Bruce Egnater's been building and designing amp for over 30 years.

You need to follow your ears and playing style and pick the best tool for the job.

Indeed. There's a reason for which I haven't written off the Egnater. If it helps, I'm also planning on investing on a new American Deluxe Ash stratocaster. I'm somewhat wondering whether the S1 alone will keep me tone-satisfied when paired with the DRRI. Obviously it'll sound great regardless.

The S1 in combination with the Egnater though, would offer enough tones to not know what to do with them all.

Thanks for the input thus far everyone. I guess I'm waiting to hear that one selling point that makes it only logical to go with one of the two options. Whatever the result, equipment shopping is always enjoyable. I feel like a kid in a candy store :o

I know this is not what you ask but I don't believe you can go wrong with either one of them. I've not tried either one of them but I trust the opinions of both 63supro and bill948. I would have to try each one with my personal guitar and go from there. You said you can't AB them but use your memory!! :)
I can't do that because of short term memory loss!!
Good luck!!

I've had my Rebel 20 for ten months and I still find new and unique tonal combination's. My new kick is to set it around I guess 8-10 watts. From 20 watts to 10 watts, the headroom changes and gets kind of Princeton Tweed like depending on how hard you lean on the 6V6 side. As much as I love my Fenders, I still have my 76 Twin and 74 Champ, I love the versatility of the Egnater more.

I tried both and choose the DRRI. I really like the sound of the DRRI. I added a 1x12 fender deluxe celestial speaker cabinet. I took off the handle and put the DRRI directly on top of the speaker cabinet. It fits and looks great. You don't need the extra speaker, I just like the look of a half stack. You have a tough decision to make. The tube reverb on the DRRI is fantastic.

Get both of them! Problem solved. :D I may get DRRI after I sell the Twin.
The Rebel was the best amp decision I've made in a long time. I still would like a giggable Fender amp in the collection. It's either that or build a 5e3 clone from the tube depot and pocket the rest of the cash.

I was planning on it then the trannie died in my car. When I recover from that I probably will. I'm pretty good at soldering and have a little electronic/electrical background. Nothing spectacular. I built a 5f1 way back and I build a lot of pedals. I even etched some of my own boards and modified them to suit my needs. I don't use them all the time. It depends who I'm playing with and what kind of music I'm doing. I was going to do a Mission 5e3, but the tube depot version looks like a snap to do on a PCB. A guy in a local band built one and I think is sounds great. It's quiet too. He said it took him 3 nights and he know nothing about electronics. The instructions and videos are great.

I wish I had the skills to do something like that. It sure would be nice to own a killer amp that you built yourself(and at about half the price) !! 8)
