Hi everyone. I was wondering if there are any reco's on tubes for the Hot Rod Deville? I could go stock, but I've heard a simple switch can really warm up the sound and improve the distortion.

So what do you like? Ideally I'd like a simple switch – no-biasing, if that's even possible.

Thanks.

Preamp tubes never need biasing.

Outputs tubes: always

The current production Tungsol's, seem to be getting good reviews. Art

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but plan to do the Max Headroom Option. Lots of people around here swear by JJ's.

+1 on the JJ's for the DeVille. I would actually buy a whole set and rebias. It made a world of difference with my HRDlx and eliminated the icepick in the forehead tone issues. Eurotubes has different kits depending on what you're looking for. In my Egnater I use a NOS JAN Phillips 5751 in V1 to knock back a little gain. The Tungsol's are great too. There's a lot you can do with preamp tubes. You just need to experiment.

Some excellent suggestions. I think my ideal sound is something akin to Keith Richards tone on Sticky Fingers. I want that warm, bluesy overdrive that he gets.

Thanks everyone!

Hi,

Try JJ ECC803S in V1 (short plate) and JJ ECC83S (long plate) in V2 both JJ-Tesla

The JJ ECC83S matched is also appreciated in dephaser
