A Twin Reverb is great.

Great yes, but serious overkill for most situations. I know this first hand.

You ain't seen serious overkill for Fender clean until you've tried one of the (no longer available) Custom Shop Dual Professionals. MASSIVE clean head room and very large, heavy and loud. Sweet, sweet clean tones though.

is there a down side to running a blues jr through a mic?

If you have loud stage volume (like an egomaniac drummer) and don't have a sophisticated monitor mix system where you have your own monitor and personal mix, it's possible for you to have trouble hearing yourself even though the PA will project it to the audience.

If that's the case, I'd fire the drummer and keep the BJ.

Agreed, loud stage volume is not conducive to a band playing nice and tight.

Jeff Beck has proven you can play Madison Square Garden with a mic'd Pro Junior. (of course to do this and not look ridiculous even Jeff uses a couple of Marshall cabinets as stage props, un-mic'd and not switched on!)

Cheers,

Snowy

Here's a couple with Jeff on his Junior, playing with EC.

He has a Reflection Filter installed around the mic on the Pro Junior.

Cheers,

Looks like he's just running the Junior mic'd to the main system.

The Marshall cabs aren't mic'd, which they would be if he was even using them.

He's just using them as a stand for his Junior - Go the Junior!!!

Cheers,

Snowy
