Billm is a registered member here.

I've done some subtle PJ mods that he recommended. I don't use a BJ.

He goes by Billm. He sells the kits to mod them. Nice guy and very helpful.

Personally, I wouldn't mod the board in any Hot Rod series amps unless you're real good with a soldering iron. The thin traces lift very easily off the board, then you'll wind up jumpering a bunch of connections. If you have a warranty, the mods to the board will void it. If I can't get what I want out of an amp without doing any more than a tube change, I get rid of it. I've learned it's nothing more than turd polish in the end.

His is a member but doesn't bother to frequent this forum much, which is a shame, as he is a very knowledgeable fellow, he doesn't come across opinionated at all even though he is marketing/installing the kits, he will give you the facts based on a lot of experience.

He has personally worked on over 1000 BJ amps and his customers agree he "walks the walk".

Best to contact him via his website and he will tell you what you need to know.

Cheers,

Snowy

i can only agree to a point here with you on this supro.
as in the case with my carvin stacks.
i just couldnt find what i was looking for at the time.
searching became pointless.
i bought the closest thing i could find, then had it moded
from there to get my needs/wants met.
in those days for my tastes, there wasnt a whole lot to
choose from honestly. so we did what we had to.

with todays amps and hybrid's, its almost impossible not to find
your personal tatses. theres almost to much to choose from.
im setting here with a house load of gear that would make your
average shredder's mouth water.
thing is, i dont like any of it for what im after now.
just cant get that sound, that tone im in need of.
the blues jr is very close. when i heard the jr i knew that was
my amp, for now. just what im in need of. then you went and spun my
world around and twisted my arm with your solid advice and knowledge,
and made me go look at the egnater line of amps. lol
i'll take the jr for now and look deeper into these.
dang they sound fantastic. heard a guy pumping one today with a SG.

Adey, I never mentioned the Blues Jr in my post. For myself, I mean ANY amp. I've played original 65Deluxe Reverbs that have IMO been modded to tone turd status. If I can't fix an amp with a tube change, it's gone, if it's unreliable like my HRDlx was, it's gone sooner. I don't like wasting time chasing tones with mods. If I was going to do that, I'd build my own.

For me, none of the HRD series amps do it for me. I especially don't care for the tone of the Blues Jr, Blues Deluxe or DeVille. Just because they don't work for me, doesn't mean they don't work for you. I play a 72 Strat. Who really likes them? It works great for me, but some folks think they were some of the worst years Fender ever produced guitars.
I don't get upset if someone doesn't like it.

Don't get all defensive. Tone is a personal thing. Use a tin can and a string if it works for you. I've been known to plat a Cigar Box guitar from time to time. I've played slide on an electric one string too. Jack White didn't invent it.

way cool --

I have done the basic BillM mods on 3 blues juniors with excellent results. I currently have 2 of his latest mods ready to go into my amp, just haven't found the time lately.

The mods open up the amp and give you "more", more high end, more low end, more range of the controls. In my case they also cured the reverb issues from the original greenboard amps.

One of the amps that I modded was for a friend who typically is not interested in mods at all. Once he heard his unmodified amp next to mine, he was convinced.

I recommend reviewing all the info on his site, especially the section that talks about how to (and how not to) work on the circuit board. This is probably not the project to tackle if you've never soldered before or if you've never worked on circuit boards. I'd recommend finding someone to do it for you.

good luck,
Dave

dave

looks like you another happy camper on the BJ mods.
like i stated before, theres several amp guys in my area that
do stuff like this for a living. all the mods i have heard have been improvements on a already cool amp.
so most everything will be done by pro hands and not mine.
i get my NOS this weekend.
i'll play it as is for a while but i know i'll be more interested
in billM as time goes along.
i have heard that there has been reverb issues with this amp, but i dont know what it is. (from reading on here)
