a 57 twin is too loud to get into the sweet spot for any of my applications...

Recommend something with the same sound but lower watts but might be also able to keep up with a "regular volume drummer" too

Oh! There are quite a few good small wattage amps out there. Blackheart, Egnater, Marshall,etc. You just have to go with your guitar and listen or if that's not possible go to youtube and listen to demos. Forum member 63supro is a good source to ask as well as many more. I'm not a amp expert.
Good luck!! :)

The 5E3 Deluxe might be a suitable alternative. The tone stack isn't quite as versatile but it will have the "familial" tweed tone.

Try the '57 Deluxe;
It sounds good too, I tried in a lamp amplifier chop. It is only 12W but very strong man watts. Enough I think to play with a battery.

If you don't want to get a '57 Deluxe RI (great tone, but not quite the '57 Twin RI tone), or try an attenuator, I'd recommend pulling one of the rectifier tubes. That may lower the volume enough for you. If you're hell-bent on getting a smaller version of the tweed Twin, start e-mailing amp builders and make sure your checkbook is loaded.

Never heard of pulling a rectifier tube. I've pulled a pair or power tubes before. Didn't really make that big of a difference. In the Tweed series, it's either an attenuator or a 57 Deluxe 5e3. That's about it unless you go boutique or see a custom amp builder. A Mission, Weber or Tube Depot kit will get you pretty close. You could get someone to build it for you and still be way ahead of the game.

The Custom Shop '57 Twin re-issue is a small-box 40-watt 5E8, Supro. It's the dual-rectifier version and pulling one of the bottles yields a bit more sag and compression. It's still pretty loud operated like that though.

A better choice for early break-up at non-lethal volume would be a custom-built 5E5 Pro or 5E7 Bandmaster at around 25 watts.

I'm planning on picking up a Tungsten Crema Wheat sometime down the line. It's a modified 5e3 design. At 20 watts, it will give you a quieter sweet spot than the Twin, yet it will keep up with a drummer better than a deluxe.

Check out these demos. They're high quality and Greg V rips!

I love his expression at around 4:29. One content mofo... :D

Thanks for the explanation Arjay. I've never seen a real Tweed Twin in person. I've only ever pulled a pair of power tubes. My Twin was way too loud with only 2 power tubes. As you know, the SF Twin has a SS rectifier.

He should still look at a 5e3 or hire TJ LOL.
