Thinking about building a tweed Deluxe, anyone have any experience building or playing one? I love the Fender 57 series, but they are way out of my price range, plus I want to learn more about amps and how they work. I've ben surfing the blogs and forums, looks like Mission is the high end and Weber is the low end? If I'm going to build one I want it to be as authntic as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

If you have some experience and you're approaching the build as a learning experience rather than a money saving venture, then go for it. But if you're just being frugal, I would suggest spending the extra dough and buying a professionally built amp. Personally, as someone with limited soldering and electronics experience, I'd prefer an amp that is hand-wired by a professional over an amp that is the end result of my learning experiences, especially when the entry fee is hundreds of dollars...

There are a few boutique builders that will hand-make the amp for just a little bit more than the price of a kit.

Li'l Dawg Amps is the first that comes to mind:

Tungsten Amps:

http://www.tungstenamp.com/index.htm (more expensive, but very reputable)

Mission, Marsh and Weber have nice kits. Tube Depot has a 5e3 kit that's on a double sided PCB with plated eyelets and chassis mounted tubes sockets, jacks and switches that looks interesting. A Tweed is a very different animal, but very cool. Not a ton of headroom, but very dynamic. I'd try one first. It may or may not be your cup of tea. I like then a lot.
