Hi, I have mid 90's Performer 1000 100W hybrid. I rarely use it because I can't turn the volume past "1." It is so loud that it is pretty much unusable outside of a large gig. Recently I accidently discovered that if I plug the guitar into the front of the amp as usual and then plug a second "dummy" cord into the "return" jack of the effects loop (the other end of this cord is not plugged into anything) the volume of the amp is cut dramatically. It has great tone plus I can actually enjoy using the two distortion channels. This beast is now a great practice amp for home.

Interestingly, I've also noticed that the effects volume knob can now control the volume of the amp, but in reverse... The higher I turn this knob the lower the volume - "10" equals no sound.

My question is: Why is this happening and am I doing any harm to the circuitry by running the amp with the dummy cord plugged in?

I hope not, because I am suddenly loving this amp.
