So I finally unloaded my Hot Rod Deluxe. The thing had never given me problems, but it was too much amp -- in terms of both weight and features -- for me. I only ever ran it on the clean channel, and I would rarely get the opportunity to crank it much above 3 or 4.

And I took a bit of hit, but I traded it straight up for a Blues Junior. I'm amazed. That little box is perfect. It now runs in stereo with my Pro Junior, and together they sound enormous.

Glad you like it! It's still part of the HRD series, but a wiser choice. It has a bit less to go wrong with it. Personally if you take that Pro JR and run it through a 2x12 or 2x12 cab, that amp will be tonal bliss. They're nice little amps.

Of all the sub-20-watt combos I've played, the Pro Junior is by far my favourite. No other amp in that range comes close, I think. My rig is really simple, but it sounds great. I run the PJ at about 3/4 of full -- enough so that it's breaking up quite nicely -- and balance that with my HRDx (or, I suppose, my BJ) set just on the edge of breakup. The only stomboxes I use are a couple of different drive pedals and a wah, of which only the latter affects both signals; the drive pedals merely boost the bigger amp.

I've been using two Pro Juniors and have never had to boot the volume or tone to 12 yet!!! Nice breakup at about 6.5--7....but it's nice to know that you can dime it to 12 if needed.

Mike, you're absolutely right. The sweet spot on mine is at about 5.5 on the dial. It sounds absolutely fantastic there. I run it hotter live, however, to make up for the clean undertones provided by the other amp. Nice combo though: not one but two PJs. How do you set them: the same or different?
