I bought a used Jensen 12" 8 ohm C12Q 35 watt speaker to replace the stock speaker in my HRD amp. I was told this speaker would give me a better blues sound and that it would break up at lower volumes.
Is this true? Is this a good speaker for what I am trying to do. I paid $35.00 for it in good shape. Or should I just buy some Yellow Jackets (I think that is what they are called)????

Thanks in advance for you opinions

Ron

I haven't tried this speaker, but becareful. If the speaker is only rated for 35 Watts, you could potentially blow it out, because your HR Deluxe runs at 40 Watts clean. Typically, you want your speaker(s) power rating to at least match that of your amp's output.

Also when considering speakers, speakers with higher SPL ratings are more touch-sensitive, which is a blues player's hallmark. Also, the higher the speaker's power handling ability (in comparison to the amp's output) the warmer and more focused on low-end the speaker is.

Thanks for the advice and warning. I reall don't play my amp at high volumes. Heck, I barley can get past 2 or 3. That is one reason I was looking for a solution to where I can play at a lower volume and have the amp break up a little earlier. I was told by putting in a lower wattage speaker it would naturaly break up at lower volumes where I could practrice and still have a good blues sound. I am checking on a tube attachment called a Yellow Jacket that is suppose to lower the wattage of the amp and they would give me a little more distortion break up at lower volumes. Has anyone used Yellow Jackets before? Do they work for what I want? I could use a Boss Blues pedal but I would really rather have the amp create the sound with its tubes. I was told it would be a MUCH better sound.
Thanks, Ron
