Hi,

I bough a Blues Deluxe 112 reissue one month ago and I've a question:

On the Clean channel, there is a huge white noise compare to the overdrive channel.
Does it normal or something is wrong and I've to go back to the dealer?

Regards,

Tissan :shock:

Mine buzzes when the reverb is on because of house electrical interference. It doesn't do it when I move it to another room. Have fun. :)

Also, I believe the reverb is automatically off on the drive channel. I would tell you for sure if wasn't for the damn medication. :lol:

GTG,

I've checked on the schematic for you, the reberb is always in parallel with the direct signal clean or overdrive.

(explanation only if you want to have technical details) You have on the amp, a potentiometer to adjust the reverb volume added to the direct signal connected to a transistor (on the PCB) used as a switch to ground on the reverb signal, controlled by the pedal, to remove the reverb at distance. The reverb volume at zero makes the same as the switch on.

By the way, the reberb is shielded, then should not be pertubated by the hum. May be you should check the quality of the reverb shields.

If you have a couple of seconds for me, can you make this test:

1. All potentiometers at zero
2. Switch from clean to drive
3. feedback me if you have a significative difference between clean and overdrive in term of white noise.

What I heard is: SHEEEEEEE on Clean nothing on Overdrive

Regards

Tissan

It could be a noisy preamp tube ( 12AX7)

Make somes tests;

1- Amp power off, remove V1, first preamp tube. Power on . Is the noise there ?
No noise; problem is the tube or in this tube circuit.Try another tube.
Noise; do the same with second 12AX7.

2-If always noise; remove the 6L6 and put it back few times, in and out . It clean the tube socket contact.

Be carefull to pull it straigt to not broken pins guide

Hi stratele52,

I made the test:

V1 off --> same noise
V2 off -> no noise
V1 instead of V2 --> no noise
V2 on V1 --> bigger noise

I think that V2 is definitlely noisy !!!

I'm going to buy a couple of 12AX7.

Many thanks, I will keep you inform.

Regards,

Tissan

Good,

Or go back to the dealer if your amp is on warranty.

The dealer will learn something ( about tube) and you save money.

If you leave your amp on the dealer, check it when you pick it up

Merci de ton aide stratele52,

I'm going to visit the dealer, the amplifier is under warranty, even for tube (3 months) .

Salutations,

Tissan

Sans surprise de Paris,

Basically from Paris,

By the way, it is not easy to find 12AX7, just one dealer identified: 'l'ampli-à-lampe" in Pigalle.

Paris ville extraordinaire, j'y ai été en 2001, mais pas assez longtemps. J'ai hâte d'y retourner.

Paris, wonderfull city I went there in 2001. I wish to return there as soon as possible.

Try ECC83, is the european name for 12AX7 . You must find this one. Or maybe you can order one by e-mail

stratele52,

I bough a Mesa-boogie 12AX7 (ECC83) high grade and test it. The white noise is now low.
However, after vacation period of my dealer I will request a maintenance since the tubes are 3 months warranty.

I don't know if you have also a deluxe, what I heard now with low noise is at the end of guitare chord sound a detectable saturation. Do you think that I've to check other tubes or it is normal ?

No I don't have a Blues Deluxe.

What you hear is not normal. If your amp is on warranty, your dealer should fix it, If he have a GOOD technician.
If he don't have, he will tell you that your amp is normal.

Your problem, saturation a the end of a guitar chord could be the Phase Inverter tube V3, 12AX7 or a resistor in this circuit.
Or bias too hot at your 6L6's. Or unmatched 6L6's

Put your new 12AX7 in V3. hear how it sound now.

Tissan, as you describe, mine has no noise on either. As I turn the volume up on the clean channel, some white noise begins at about 4.

GTG,

Many thanks, with the new V2 12AX7 the noise is now quite normal.

stratele52,

Concernant la légère distortion sur les fins de notes graves, je vais essayer une autre 12AX7 à la place de V3.

About the light distortion at chord sound end, I'm going to try a new 12AX7.

By the way, what do you thing about mesa 12AX7 high grade?

stratele52,

I try a new 12AX7 mesa on V3: no change.

Next week I will request a maintenance with the dealer.
