Yep. I didn't buy mine for the looks. I never buy anything for looks, It was the outrageous tonal control and build quality that sold me on the amp.

I am looking to buy a new amp. I have been looking around since last week and checked out a few. I think the The Blues Deluxe is too loud since I live in an apartment. Any suggestions between the Egnater rebel 20 or the 57 CHAMP?

Thanks for the input.

I'd suggest a Super Champ XD. Gives you the sound of the 57 Champ, plus a laundry list of many other amps out there. Plus, you'll save yourself a lot of coin buying one of those versus a '57 Champ. If you really want a Champ, look for some of the old vintage champs from the '70s or buy the Champ 600....

As neat as the XD is, it doesn't sound anything like a real 57 Tweed Champ. The Egnater will get you fairly close to a Tweed Princeton with natural tube distortion and the watts control which effects the headroom without the use of DSP which I find very unnatural sounding. Your Ears May Vary YEMV :D

I just bought my first fender electric guitar, but I have no amp. I don't want to spend a ton of money on an amp right now. Is there an inexpensive amp for around $100?

thanks

One thing you get on this forum is a number of highly opinionated comments. Listen to them, but take them for what they're worth. You haven't described in detail how the amp will be used other than to say in an apartment.

The Blues Deluxe is way too loud for an apartment...I own one. I also own two other tube amps and several solid state amps. Keep your mind open to what your ears hear. A tube amp may not be right for you at this time.

I got a "computer based" amp as referred to in this post, to experiment with and the variety of sounds to be had is huge and many are very decent. It's a Peavey Vypyr. They're made in various sizes. Check it out along with the Fender SCXD. The vypyr's problems have been predominantly software issues, corrected by downloading updates. I, along with many others have had no problems with the Vypyr. They've been out long enough now to have most of the bugs worked out.

The best advice is to go to a large music store (like a Guitar Center or similar) and try as many out as you can including the ones mentioned in this thread. Suggestions are all coming from different perspectives and the choice needs to be made by what you hear and your intended use.

As you can read, you won't find 100% agreement here.

The big stumbling block is the price range. If you want a tube amp your choices are limited on a new amp. But you may be able to find a used Vibro Champ XD or a Champion 600. Solid state, a Frontman 25 may work out for you. You may find a Frontman 65 used in your price range. I wouldn't go any lower down the food chain. That said I have a small 3 watt Pignose amp that I like quite a bit.

Lord, I can't believe I'm recommending this stuff. See, I'm not all that bad. 8)

You're talking a lot of coin. Both of those amps are over a grand. Superchamp is only $279. If I had the money for more professional gear I would get it. My champagne taste is on hold with my beer budget....

An Egnater Tweaker i think in under $600. I would recommend that over the lower end Fender amps. Those recommendations were for adampgreen01 with a hundred bucks to spend. Personally I would save more money and at least get a half decent amp.

If you're definitely going to stick to your budget of $100, then you should concentrate on finding a nice used amp. I'd recommend a frontman or a vibro champ xd. And like others have said, you should go visit a store and try out a variety of amps to see what you like.

Thank you for all of your comments and advice. Sorry to not be more clear. I don't need anything fancy. I can't have an amp that is too loud. I just want an amp to play for myself and mess around.

CHAMP !!!

For your situation I think you'll get the best tone for a small space.
They sound awesome. I love mine. Put a set of vintage tubes in it and the tone will blow you away.
