Hi
I am playing Fender Blues deVille 2x12 - year 93' or 94'.
I have been playing this amp for 5 years now and since 1year I can not find it reliable.
I am playing overnight gigs. Thie amp is on up to 12 hours a night 10-15 timeas a year + some rehersals. After couple of hours playing the amp looses his power. The sound cuts dead. It stop playing for about a sec than back. Basically it is impossible to play in front of audience that way. Indicator lamp is shining bright at the beginnig but after a while it gets darker and darker than dead. Apart from that I can hear some metalic sounds from the speaker when playing individual notes. I tried with different speaker cabinet and it is the same. So I assume speakers are fine.
The next day story begins. The amp is ok for few hours than problem starts.
I have replaced tubes 3 times alraedy during last year. I have given it to 2 electronic guys but they couldn't figure out the problem. I have asked one of them to replace some parts (fromel mod kit) but it didn't help.
Any ideas where to look for?
Do I have heating problem?
Might this be a problem with my power transformer?
Thanks
Mariogi

First of all, are your electronic guys are good tech ? This is a must.

If they are, they should find the problem.

It look like bad solder on/or power resistor, on power supply or 6L6 circuit.

You said you change tube many times, the 6L6 ?

Do you check bias ( by a good tech) each time ?

Hey
I had the exact same problem! These amps have a very unstable pc board! They are not made to travel well and you might want to go back to having someone look at all of the tube sockets, making sure there are no bad solders... make sure the power light indicator has a good connection... as a matter of fact, test all the boards!! Even if you can't see a bad connection, it's probably there somewhere.....They REALLY aren't made for a lot of moving and banging around in vehicles!
Test your tubes for reasonably matched output, ( some are very strong and others weak) as bad tubes can cause the pinging sizzling you here after notes are played! This happened to me and it took a great tech with patience and not trying to soak me $ wise, to solve it! These amps NEED good tubes... dont go chinese, use sovtech or something... not chinese.

mariogi,

I've checked on the schematic blues deluxe 112 (original and reissue):

If the jewel becomes dark, it highly indicates that there is no power out the transformer, matching with the fact that you lost your sound.

You can check the brazing of the transformer, the white and black wires, the RT1, power switch and power plug.

The worst case would be the transformer itself, but I'm not convinced.

The ageing of braze is also maching with the description you made: the braze is cut but at cold it is not making a significative resistor, however at hot due to the differential displacement a significative resistor appears up to open circuit. Often it is visible, you see a black circle in the braze around the component. Ususally it becomes worse and worse.

By the way, tell me the difference between BD 112 and 2x12?

Tissan
