Has anyone here put the "guts" to an SCXD in a larger cab (with 12" speaker), or turned it into a head/cab combination. I'm interested in either/or. How did you pull this off?

There was a link on here awhile ago where someone did just that. They put it in a blond cab with a 12in speaker. Search and you shall find.

If you're handy, you can pretty much do whatever you want. It's a shame they don't have a head available with 4,8,16 ohm outputs. I think the cabinet and speaker are a huge liability with that amp. It always sounds a bit boxy to me.

It a neat little amp but for me I only used the clean channel. My other amps are much better so I thought about modding mine but lost intrest. Now im going to get rid of mine and try something else.

I've seen a couple of guys use the Hot Rod Deluxe extension cabinet with the SCXD and liked the results. Rather than convert the amp to a head you can simply run the extension speaker from the amp. The 12" speaker will move more air and give you a little more bottom end.

Here's some cabinet manufacturers who could do the job, a guy on ebay who makes one just for the scxd, and a web forum where someone did it:
