I'm looking at these right now as an option in my amp search, anyone have an experience with them? Thoughts? Opinions?

I thnk it's a pretty solid amp, but the OEM re-issue Jensen P10R's are a big disappointment. A pair of Webers will perk things right up though.

Agree with Retroverb, a speaker and tube swap resulted in a much nicer sounding amp. I initially swapped out for some Webers, then came across a set of Celestion V10s, and they were a great match for this amp. Also, swapped out some pre- and poweramp tubes and it was a great sounding amp. The amp did not have a large amount of hiss to begin with, but with the tube swap, it was not at all noticeable. Great trem on this amp. I ended up selling as I also had a DRRI that after the changes, the two were very close.

I think the CVR is a lot of fun and will get one someday.

But it's not a reissue. Even Fender has this to say in the product overview on this very website: "Not a reissue, but rather a modern interpretation of a classic Fender."

The CVR is amp maker Bruce Zinky's interpretation of a hotrodded 60's blackface Vibrolux. Main differences between the CVR and the original is more preamp gain on tap, no negative feedback, Normal and Bright channels are in phase (you can jumper channels), and reverb and tremolo are available on both channels not just the Bright channel only. There are well documented modifications on the net if you want to bring the CVR to vintage specs. Just google "custom vibrolux reverb moyer mods" or any combination of those words.

I tried a CVR in a shop as recently as last Saturday and it's true that it is a noisy beast because of the added gain to the preamp. Lots of hiss and no clean headroom. If I didn't already have a gainy non-master volume amp I would have bought it. I like gritty tube breakup and the CVR is the total opposite of your typical Fender blackface clean. Many people don't like that though so try it before you buy it.

It's good to see the other comments above about the speakers. That's good info.

For me I prefer the DRRI hands down over the CVR. As mentioned earlier the hiss is an issue and I've got a friend who eventualy got rid of his for that very reason. Some like it's tone but the DRRI is really in a class by itself if your looking for that classic blackface tone. The best thing to do is go to GC or Sam Ash etc. and do an A/B test on them. Depending on your style of music, I'm betting on the DRRI.

I had a 64 Vibrolux Reverb (stolen) so I have a little comparison of sorts even though the CVR has been messed with. I find it a bit noisy and a bit more hiss than I like to hear. Still not a bad amp.

I just bought one new at a very good price.

Be prepared to mod it.

1. The reverb sucks. Just doesn't have much. Reverb doesn't compare to the DRRI.

2. The hum will drive you crazy if you play it at home. Might be fine on stage, and you won't notice once you start playing

With all that said, look for the mods on the web, they really work. I now have great reverb and NO HUM.

I compared the Custom Vibrolux reverb to the DRRI and loved the sound of the CV. I tried hard to like the DRRI, but didn't have the cleans I was looking for. The CV is closer to a Twin Reverb in sound than the DDRI.

The DDRI is darker sounding, where the CV is crisp clean.

I heard "The Guess Who", the lead had a DDRI and the rhythm had a Deville. I still didn't care for the DDRI sound.

Just my opinion, since the DDRI is one of the most popular amps.
