The volume dropped out and sounded distorted .I could smell something getting hot.So I looked back and one of the power tubes was glowing bright orange.I turned it to standby and turned it back on .Everything turned to normal and didnt have a problem all night.I am suspecting either a tube is going bad or the socket needs retensioned.Any ideas? What I did do was swapped the tubes around after I cleaned the pins and re tentioned the pins. They have the original Groove tubes ,but I want to replace them eventually with maybe some JJs.So far everything is working ok.

budglo, Could just be a power tube on the way out. I'd still check the bias voltage just to be sure. IMO GT's are pretty crappy tubes. I've never had any luck with them.

Another possibility might be your V6 (12AT7). This is the phase inverter and if one half of this dual triode is heading south it could also mimic the symptoms of a dying power tube. I'd check it as well.

Thanks,Arjay,I will check out that tube as well.I am thinking maybe replacing all the stock tubes .Any recommendations?I am looking for that vintage blackface deluxe reverb we all know and love with as much headroom as possible.I have a tubescreamer and a digitech hardwire cm-2 to cet my crunch from. Thanks in advance.bbrodie ,good to hear from you.

I favor the NOS JAN stuff. I have (ahem)......a modest stock of milspec glass from my "days in uniform".

But some of the current tubes are pretty good -- JJ's, TAD's, some others. For power bottles the Winged C's are probably a safe bet. Go with the re-issue Tung-Sols if a rectifier is required.
