Hey guys, I just recently purchased a Blues Dlx Reissue 2 days ago and I am noticing a rattle when I play low E. It sounds like the chassis is rattling. I checked all the screws and everything seems tight. I'm sure this has been covered before but couldn't find it. Any suggestions to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you familiar with the sound of tube rattle and are sure that isn't it?

Yeah I am. Its worse than Tube Rattle. I used to have a DeVille 410 and it never rattled like this. I'm pretty sure its coming from the chassis somewhere. I figured this might be a common thing but it drives me nuts. It sucks to have that great tone and "fender cleans" be ruined by a rattle.

tighten all the screws that hold the amp together. they realy aren't put in too tight to start with. thats what i did when mine rattled. also make sure it's not something close by in the room. mine rattled handles on my nightstand....it drove me crazy. hope this helps cause it realy is a good amp , i love mine.

My BD rattled where the output transformer wires go thru the chassis. I good rubber grommet will work there instead of the plastic one Fender puts in it. The plastic shrinks and hardens with age and the rattles are more pronounced. Same with the insulators on the preamp tube holes in the chassis. My amp is a 1995.

Amp rattle can come from anywhere. First, make sure it's definitely coming from the amp (try playing it in different rooms, or using some sort of an isolation pad - placing it on a bed will suffice; or something similar that will isolate it from rattling everything around it).

Most likely it's the chassis rattling, but you should have someone play through the amp while you troubleshoot; if you're a solitary player, playing a riff through a looper pedal and looping it while you troubleshoot works well - that's what I did.

Touch different parts of the amp: handle, chassis, tubes (carefully - hot!), transformers, etc. and see if the rattling stops. When touching the tubes, just put your finger on them; don't push them in toward the amp. Not only does putting pressure on the tube risk damaging it, but also, the pressure placed on the tube can be transferred into pressure on the chassis, making you think that the tubes are the culprit, while it may actually be the chassis.

As others have said, make sure all screws are tight, but make sure they're not too tight. Between the chassis and the cabinet is usually a thin piece of foam/weather stripping (have never opened up a BD, but I'm assuming...) and sometimes, if the screws are too tight, it compresses the foam so much that it defeats its purpose. This was the case with my most recent amp purchase:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34598&highlight=

I had a difficult time adjusting screw tension to overcome the chassis rattle (too tight = rattle, too loose = rattle, happy medium = hard to find). My solution was to go to Home Depot and buy some thicker weather stripping and redo the job myself. It was difficult to re-install the chassis (had to manually compress the stripping a bit to get the screws to line up), but once installed, no more rattle; just crazy tone 8) .

Another note, my Supro caused some power tube rattle as well. I tried the cheapo tube dampers from ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/8-TUBE-AMP-PREAMP-DAMPERS-12AX7-6922-EL84-6DJ8-6N1P-/370371921697?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item563be30721

...problem solved; they work :)

Good luck. I hope you identify the problem and arive at a solution. I was frustrated when I first bought my Supro, but I'm glad that I stuck with it, because it floors me whenever I play through it :D .

Thanks guys for all the replies. I took the amp apart last night and I think I have narrowed it down to the circuit board (the vertical one), when I pull outward on the center of it slightly the rattle stops. I tried loosening all the screws to re seat it and tightened everything back up. I even made sure the nuts on the pots at the top were tight but the rattle still remains unless I pull slightly on the board. So instead of damaging something or having to work on a brand new amp I'm going to try and exchange it today. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again for all your help.

Hey guys, just a quick update. I exchanged the amp for another Blues Deluxe Reissue and everything is all good with it. Thankfully there was no hassle at all with the exchange. I really love this amp, the tone is awesome. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

That's great. You shouldn't have to troubleshoot a new amp.
