Hi Arctic Bass I own both I'am still learning playing around with them ,I would not think they would ever replace the originals but close in the sence if you have a Amp with only a volume "they sure would be a welcome edition "!

When I was hunting around for a new OD pedal, the man in the shop tried to foist a '65 FDR pedal off on me. I played around with it for awhile thinking "Oh, this is neat." Unfortunately I couldn't coax even one pleasing tone from it: everything seemed to come through sounding tinny and overly digital. I wound up buying a Way Huge Pork Loin.

My own theory is that if you want to sound like you are playing through a '65 Deluxe or a '59 Bassman, you should buy a '65 Deluxe or a '59 Bassman. Or both.

If you want to have some fun and learn some electronics skills too try BYOC pedals. http://www.buildyourownclone.com/

They are classic stomp box clones. I have a few and they sound great and only take a few hours to build. I will eventually build my own pedal board of classic pedals for a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

I own the '65 Deluxe Reverb' pedal from Boss and I like it for what it is. The only time I use it in my band is the trem for 4 bars of one song but at home when I'm messing about I put it through my Champ 600 just to give me more options on gain, eq and reverb.

They are great for what they are but anyone expecting the real thing from these needs their heads examined.

It's like you can either have real cheese or cheese FLAVOURED Doritos. Its emulation only but as I said, I like it in front of my Champ 600.

I have had a fair variety of Boss pedals, and I've never encountered a lemon. I think Boss has built, and continues to build, some of the best "tone for your money" stompboxes on the market. My 1980s SD-1 remains among my favourite overdrive pedals of all time, even when competing with Fulltone, Way Huge, and a few other choice boxes. I'm judicious, however, with what I buy, and some of the newer Boss units tend to sound quite digital. That generally doesn't bother me too much -- because who can really hear a pedal through an amp, and a big PA system? -- but the FDR, among others, was digital to the point of harshness.

Yup the digital one say on them that they use COSM technology. Thats their dig pedals.

It seems sort of odd to me, the incorporation of broad spectrum digital technology -- modeling circuits, in particular -- into stompboxes. I see the potential for use in big multieffect units, but individual stompboxes tend to be appreciated because they sound better than any multieffect box. And sure I understand that digital delay and reverb are far more affordable, but distortion and overdrive ought to be analog in a stompbox, If I wanted to get something with modeling technology, I'd get a big Line 6 or Digitech rig; if I want a great sounding stompbox, I'll get one without all the digital appendages.

Like I said in a previous post I hardly use it live, it just gives me extra options when I'm playing through my Champ 600 at night. It is what it is, a tool for a separate application. All my other pedals are analogue.
