I'm new to tube amps so go easy on me please.

I just purchased a brand new Hot Rod Deluxe one week ago. I turned it on today, allowed it to warm up on standby, and began playing. Clean channel works fine, overdrive and more drive have no sound. I tried switching via footswitch and the button on the control panel. All of the tubes are lighting up.

Like I said, I'm totally new to tube amps so I really have no idea what could be the problem. I tried searching the forum, but I didn't find much that addresses my problem.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

I would check to make sure that none of the tubes worked themselves loose when being shipped.

Are you aware that for the button to work, the footswitch must be unplugged? That would allow you to see if the problem is in the footswitching circuitry?

Oh, and if it turns out that you can switch with the button, the first and easiest thing to check out in the footswitching circuitry is to replace the cable with a standard instrument cable for test purposes....won't hurt a thing.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I just checked all the tubes and they are all secure and still getting power. Also, the button on the faceplate does not work even when the footswitch is unplugged. I'm really at a loss for ideas. Can anyone think of anything else to check?

I really hate to have to take this thing in to get repaired since it is literally a week old.

Can't think of any simple solutions other than those given. Afraid it will have to go back for warranty/repair work.

Yes, Take it back and tell them you wan a replacement... if its just a week old, the shop should have no problem doing this. If they insist that it be repaired, make sure they guarantee a delivery date that is to your satisfaction. If the later is to be, ask them for a "Loaner" until you get you "new" one back.

Don't get it repaired, take it back it's only a week old, save a few more bucks and get a DRRI or trade it on a used DRRI. If you need more power, go for a Super Reverb. That kind of QC is unacceptable in a new amp.

The HRD series aren't the most reliable amps in the Fender lineup. Mine spent a ton of time in the shop until I got rid of it. I gigged with it. It didn't like to be moved around. I had one problem after another. Lots of folks change the tubes and speaker pretty early on.

Another option in the same price range is a Peavey Classic 30. They're great amps. Reliable, sound great and made in the USA.

Me too. There's a lot better amps out there for the money.
