Hello everyone. I am currently auditioning a new blues deville reissue and a 65 Princeton reverb. I notice that there is significantly more reverb generated by the Princeton than the deville. Is this normal, or is there possibly something wrong with the deville? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

The PRRI has the best reverb I heard in newer gear.

The Princeton's sound great. The reverb is old school. That's why it sounds so good. IMO, The Blues DeVille isn't even in the same league in tone or build quality.

The reverb in the Blues Deluxe is NOT tube-driven as is that in the Princeton Reverb.

Bingo!! Those two amps are worlds apart. I don't feel that anything in the whole HRD or VM series has good reverb. You really can't beat tube driven reverb in most cases.

I just read an interview with Peter Green in the 90's, who said on his tour he was using a Blues Deville. YMMV

wouldn't be surprising, but I'd guess that artist amps get more than a once-over before leaving the factory, and folks like Peter Green have full-time guitar techs to maintain and repair all their gear.

I'm sure there are some endorsers who literally use what's on the floor at Sam Ash, but my Spidey-sense says in most cases with a little/lot of tweaking.

Its really tough to beat the sound of the reverb in any of the blackface Fender amps. Its why they have "reverb" on the end of the name.

Ned's right. The amps are usually modded to death too. Plus if tou have the bucks, they're disposable and they usually have numerous backups.

I always wondered about why artists used those amps.Makes sense, probably just the cabinet left.I was watching a Crossroads dvd from Texas and Clapton had a Blues jr "woody" in the background .Imight not sound great, but it sure looked perty. 8)

Don't go by the amps on stage. I've seen guys use amps placed behind the those amps to hide what they really use. Many performers have certain amps on stage just because they have an endorsement deal but have the amp they're actually using piped through a monitor and hidden. If you're wireless it's easy.

They do have the bucks, and they could buy whatever they want. On the other hand, many of us don't have unlimited bucks, so we buy the best we can. For a lot of people that is the Hot Rod Series. I could have spent more, but I liked the Blues Deluxe RI. To be informed without ceasing every time I read through here that my amp is total junk is tedious. Fender is unaffected by your "jihad", but it is tiresome to me. Insulting people's gear is not very cool. Hugs and kisses. GG
