"I would try and see if you like the sound of the 12AY7 first. If you do, replace that 1/4 resistor with a 1/2 for safety. Would that void the warranty?"

Saw the above quote from the Bassman RI thread. What is this and does it apply to replacing preamp tubes on a Blues Deluxe RI? The thread says that putting a 12ay7 in the V1 spot will fry the plate resistor.

I'm curious about this as well since it seems to me the schematic http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... ematic.pdf show the plate reistors (R4 and R9 I think) to already be 1/2 watt. The Bassman RI shows 1/2 watt plate resistors at V1 too. So do they really have 1/4 watt not 1/2 watt???

Yes the Blues Deluxe shows them as 1/2 watt but what about the Blues Deluxe Reissue?

Thanks for the schematic. Is the BD and the BDRI the same? I know there is a bias pot on the BDRI and not the BD. Any other changes? Is there a BDRI Schematic out there?

a 12ay7 is in the same family as 12ax7 it just has lower gain.you can usualy change to any tube in this family with no problems.check out some of the sites that sell tubes you can find replacement info. the 12ax7, ecc83,7025 all run about 80 to 100%, 5751 is around70% 12at7 is around 60% and 12ay7 is the lowest. the lower the gain the sooner the break up also the amp is a little more tame. don't put a 12ay7 in the pi position. most people only use it in the v1. i hear it has a nice distortion and smooth feel, but i never tried it in my bdri.
