Try the Champ 600. Great sound, and really reasonable price. I have a SCXD and that is my main gig/recording amp but the lower watt Champ 600 will soon be an addition to my recording arsenal!

I'd look for a clean Silverface Champ. IMO it soungs way better and is built better than the 600. It'll cost more, but it will be way worth it. If you think the HRDlx is great, you need to try a DRRI. The clean IMO has way more character than any HRD series amp. You can also step outside the Fender camp too. There are tons of great sounding low wattage amps around. The 600 is okay if you run it through a bigger speaker. When you turn up the 600, it gets pretty raspy through the stock speaker.

Not sure what your budget is, but this is one helluva great sounding small amp :

I agree with MiamiMike, the Princeton is a great all tube amp, great for practice, and can be used for gigs. I came across a great silverface Princeton about 10 years ago for $200. The owner had beefed up the transformer (Mercury Mag) and had a 2nd baffle for a 12" speaker. I installed the 12" baffle, and can't recall what I have in for a speaker, either a Celestion V30 or Eminence Red-White-Blue, but this is the perfect balance for increasing clean headroom, and having enough clean low end in a very portable amp. Plus the vibrato on this amp is killer.

I use an amplifier attenuator to lower the volume but to keep the louder 'sound'. They come in all price ranges. There is one called "The Omnisonic" that's available from the maker on e-Bay. Mine was $39. He also sells one @ $19. These are the least expensive ones out there. I would advise the better one. Then there are better attenuators made by Weber, and many other manufacturers. You pretty much get what you pay for in one. Run it thru your effects loop.

Those are not attenuators. They are just a volume pot that hooks up through the loop. You can do the same thing with any volume pedal. Not the same thing at all. You can build one in 10 minutes for under 10 bucks yourself. An attenuator goes between the speaker output and the speaker.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I knew that a true attenuator should have been giving me more than that was. You get what you pay for.

I'm kind of regretting buying my super champ xd too. I debated back and forth for a month between the xd and a tweed blues jr. I decided to go with the xd(mainly to save $200), but every week when I play my Tele on my git teachers Blues Jr. I regret the choice I made. I've had my xd for about 6 months. This(the regret)started about 6 weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, the xd has a great tone, and lots of bells and whistles. Maybe too many in fact for my skill level of playing. Anyhow, if I had it to do over again, I would have waited a few more weeks(layaway) and got the tweed blues jr. Just my non-skilled player humble opinion.

I read your post (just above this). I was regretting having bought an "Omnisonic" so called attenuator on eBay. A guy posted and let me know that it's just a volume control. As for my SCXD, I couldn't be happier. I like channel 1 and voices 1 through 6. You may come to use your SCXD more than you think, now. I notice my Super Champ has a lot of treble. Your Tele could really get a little edgy. Save for your next amp. Since you've got 15 watts now, maybe go for a reasonably priced, used tube model, in the 20 + watt range. In any case, "keep on playing".
