Does anyone out there use pedals in front of their Super Champ XD? Many musicians write in reviews that an amp either does or does not 'accept pedals well'. I like the on board effects provided but I'll be limited to whatever combination the amp provides. A Tube Screamer is about the only pedal that I want to put in front. I don't want to feed this amp any more than it can operate comfortably with. Thank You.

Hi mate,

I have a Vibro-ChampXD, so it's quite similar and you just have to be careful not to overload the digital input stage of the amp. Because it's expecting a guitar level signal if you boost too far above normal guitar level it will cause clipping in the digital preamp stage and that sounds quite nasty.

Set your pedal so that when switched on, it's volume level is the same as your guitar (unity) and then just bring it up a little more and you should be fine. The trick is not to go too far above the straight guitar signal.

Cheers,

Snowy.

Thanks much for your input. It sounds right on. I think I will stick with using the amp as a unit 'as is'. Heck, these little guys are really neat for the buck. I checked out the Vibro Champ XD closely myself. It's a killer little class A screamer. Fender has done much more with modeling than I was aware of. I am going to put in the Ted Weber signature alnico though. Playing with tone is half the pleasure of owning gear.
