So, I finally get a Hot Rod Deville and at higher volume (5-6) when hitting certain notes I get quite a bit of harmonic buzz from the edge of the grille cloth where it tucks into the amp. Granted, it's a used amp but I would still like to find a remedy to this problem.
Yeah, just turn it down, right?
Well, I enjoy playing that loud sometimes and it's unnerving to be groovin' right along and hear that racket clean through my playing.
So, short of taking it to a pro, does anyone know of a decent home remedy?

How about some kind of foam or insulation material?

I'd start looking for stripped screws holding the baffle in place.

Cant you remove the grill and see if the problem goes away? That would eliminate that.

Usually the grill cloth is attached to the speaker baffle itself as well as the speaker. I'm not positive about the DeVille. It's got to be annoying.

I can imagine. The vibrations from my 4x12 cab make the vents in my place rattle. Annoying as shi7.

I'm pretty positive it's not a stripped screw. I can lightly press against the area that buzzes and that eliminates it. It seems to be on the outside.

Atolleter: Removing the grille is a real pain and also very impractical. The speakers are attached to the wooden baffle and the grille is wrapped around that with about a 1/2" edge stapled all the way around to the inside (back of the baffle). So, removing the grille essentially means I pay to have it replaced...

Still buzzing. I've not come up with any solution.

Well, I would rather it not look trashy. Or, I would rather it not look like home-remedy.

If it's new, it's under warranty.

Used

Just today I thought of a possible fix. I think If I were to pinpoint the buzz on the front I could remove the screws holding the speaker closest to it. Then, I could reach my hand to the inside edge, on the front, between the grille, and the baffle. I would just cut a small strip of flat foam for each buzzing area and super glue it to the grille and baffle. That way the contact between the baffle and the grille is eliminated, thus eliminating the buzz.

I believe the buzz is being caused by the minimal space between the grille and baffle on the front edge. It happens to buzz on that edge because it's closer to the baffle where it is wrapped around to the back. The right note on my guitar at about volume 4-5 on the amp creates the harmonic frequency.

*gasp* That was a lot.

Hope that makes sense to everyone.. :?: :)

Could you use a small wood shim to tighten it up? Foam may dry out in time and the buzz may come back.

Yeah, good thinking there. I didn't think about that. It would have to be just the right size. I guess I could find some scraps because there's not a feasible way to measure how thick it would need to be. I'm trying to make this as un-invasive as I can.
