I need some help, i can't find a good overdrive to matc with my blues deluxe
I own a me 50 COUPLED WITH A TS9 which enables me to play good bonamassa the great flood but when I WANT to get a lead sound with dynamic the ts9 AND BB2 don't satisfy me
I listen to ocd fultone , too shrill and other overdrive on ututbe , i hesitated betwenn XOTIC BB+ AND MOSFET FULLTONE 2 BUT FOUND it colored too much
I would like to have paul personne lead sound (go to utube ans listen paul personne best ever played solo of VISIONS)
my blues deluxe overdrive sound lazcks of dynamic and you must keep it low otherwise it's ugly
this is the only default of this amp

If you like the sound of your amp as it is and just want to add some nice dirt without colouring the existing sound and dynamics then the Crowther Audio Hotcake is a great addition to your setup.

http://www.pedalgeek.com/cgi-bin/new_shop.cgi?config=&uid=&uzc=&command=link--cah

They seem to be a bit of a well kept secret and not often mentioned but i've had one now for 10 years and it made both my TS808 and Fat-Boost redundant, as it does both those jobs superbly without messing with your original basic tone when switched off or on.

Great in front of a "just on the verge of breakup" tube amp.

Cheers,

Snowy

Danelectro makes a couple of great overdrives in the Coolcat line -the Drive CO-1 and the Transparent Overdrive CTO-1 both are in sturdy metal cases and cost around $50.The Transparent can even give you Clapton like "woman" tones.Well worth a look.

While I haven't heard the Danelectro pedals, there was a large amount of controversy about many of the Cool Cat pedals being pretty much exact copies of other current pedals out in the marketplace.

The Transparent Overdrive is/was a direct copy of the more expensive Paul Cochrane Timmy pedal, which is a great pedal (I own one). At $149, it is one of my favorites and can give you more of your guitar and amp. I only waited 3 months for mine.

In fact, Danelectro was caught and had to change the circuit to avoid issues with Paul Cochrane. Not because they're good guys, but more likely because they were caught...
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/archiv ... 32074.html

Given that the Timmy is only $90 more than the Danelectro and ultimately I believe would sound much better/more detailed, I'd suggest supporting the original and not the clone.

I've heard the C0-1 drive is similarly cloned from the Fulltone OCD pedal. Some reading here:
http://www.tdpri.com/forum/archive/inde ... 47397.html

Shame, as I had thought higher of Danelectro. This seems like a Behringer/Bugera move, and I'll add them to my list of manufacturers not to buy from.

I use a VooDoo Lab Sparkle Drive in front of mine. It depends on the sound you want. I like the fact that I can add clean boost and TS808ish overdrive in combination.

Ibanez TS808 Overdrive Pro Tube Screamer.
Fulltone Full-Drive 2 Mosfet.
If these don't sound good there's probably something wrong with your amp.

Check out the Keeley stuff. I have the same amp. However I got this thing called the Ominsonic..Which goes into your effics input output. This will give you control of your tone.. I play my volumes at 9 or so. But I can control the loudness with the Omin.. So understand this.. I play at a volume that NO ONE COULD STAND.. But with the Omin thing I can control the loudness. ( the idea is to get the tubes all hot and stuff, i think they have a term for it but it escape's me at this moment). So I the an unreal tone, with out the ear splinting loudness.. With my Keeley modded bb2, I get a killer sound. In fact I hated this amp till I got this thing.. It was always to loud and bright...This turns it in to a whole new ball game..BTW the ominsonic thing is like $20 bucks...I will say this tone is so subjective.. I think to some degree we all learn to love the stuff we have.. wow I do go on sometimes sorry, Mark

One of the other guitarists in my band has a Hot Rod Deville that pairs very nicely with an OCD pedal and either his strat, Baja Tele, or Les Paul.

For me, I had Keeley mod my Dunlop wah (fasel inductor, true bypass) and my TS9. Both sound better. The Timmy is now always on on my pedalboard, and I use a Barber Direct Drive for crunch.

For leads, I use a Keeley Katana boost - just makes the cleans, Timmy and/or the Barber louder and is great for soloing. I've found this works for me.

If you have a dealer near you that stocks multiple pedals, if you can bring your gear down and try the pedals with your stuff, that's the best way to do it. I'm fortunate as my local guitar shop here in Redondo Beach is a Fender dealer, and carries MXR, Boss, Xotic, Tim/Timmy, Keeley, Voodoo Labs, plus many more - great to be able to bring my pedalboard in and see exactly how the pedal will interact with my pedals and my rig.

If you let people know what locale you're in, they may suggest local shops that can do the same.

There aren't many tube amps I can think of that don't sound great with a Fulltone OCD in front of -- it's a great effect for "waking up" an amp, especially Fenders. It puts some real growl into my '65 Princeton Reverb and makes my '67 Dual Showman roar. You could do a lot worse than the OCD, IMO.

I test drove the OCD last month ,looking for an od pedal for my drri.Presently i have a ts 9 and was looking for something different.I wouldnt call it "transparent" at all.I played thru it and found it somewhat shrill sounding .Went home and played the drri on like 8 and 9 for a few minutes.Definetely sounded nothing like my amp at breakup.Sounds alot like my EH English Muffn.

I have to agree, I run a fulltone OCD through my Peavey Classic 50 on the clean channel. The OCD is very transparent and IMO one of the best OD pedals you can buy. You can get anything from a clean boost to a gritty stack tone. I also really like the drive channel on the Classic 50.

Lovepedal Overdrives are also worth looking at. Like the Fulltone OCD, the Love Pedal Eternity is a highly sought after pedal as well.

There are plenty of good pedals out there, Fulltone and Tubescreamer seem to be the favourites. Try this idea I heard on here: turn down the drive control on your pedal to zero and the level up to full! Amazing, proper hot tube sounds. Try it, and thanks Vulcan, for bringing that up a year ago on here.

Not much mention in this discussion of what guitar you're playing, though. I'd have thought that was as important as anything to your sound.

If you could find an original Marshall Guv'nor-the British made one in the metal case-you'd have just about the best overdrive out there,a real Marshall stack on bust tone.I use one with my Blues Jr. and bought it used for only $60.
