Sorry if this has been covered or even beaten to death, but I'm a first time poster and I have a question on the use of my super champ xd while recording. Does it hurt the amplifier to be played with the speaker disconnected while using the line out to record? There are times I'd like to do that but I'm afraid it might overload a transformer or something, but maybe its circuitry is designed to do it, I dont know, and I sure would appreciate if someone with greater knowledge of these amps could tell me.
Generally speaking, I am enjoying the amp a lot. I replaced the speaker with the old Ragin Cajun and it cranks pretty good live.
Thanks,
Geoff

I wouldn't disconnect the speaker under any circumstances without a dummy load. The Egnater Rebel 30 has a silent record switch that uses a dummy load so you don't need the speaker while recording.

Thanks, would it be easy to create a device that provides a load?

63superpro always provides wise advice. Always remember when you no load your gear you have a greater chance of overpowering the circuits and frying them.

Why not just mic the amp when you record unless you're trying not to disturb someone.

To silently record a SCXD, just pull the 12AX7 tube(with the power off of course). Since the line out of the SCXD isn't speaker emulated, it might not sound very good into a recording device. Miking the cab, like Supro suggested, is probably gonna sound better.

Can you use the line out for a headphone?

no, the line out does not play 2 channels, nor does it shut off the speaker. when I'm recording, I need the line out to record. I may look into making a device out of a 1/4 inch jack and a resistor, or something that will simulate the speaker load. If I get something to work, I'll let you know.
Thanks,
G
