Hello I was thinking of getting a hot rod deville 4-10 or 2-12 and was told the master volume will not work on channel 1 the clean channel. It only works on channel 2 & 3. Is this correct? Have used 1970's twin reverbs all my life and play country gospel music and curious about getting a hot rod deville. Thanks for the help, Eddie

The master volume controls the volume for the drive channels.

Yeah, that's kind of interesting. The schematic shows it as a master for the pre amp, when it's in the drive mode only. Not a global master on the power section. Art

I wouldn't even consider them real 2 or 3 channel amps. They share the same EQ too.

I've owned both and really like both though I currently only have the 212. I only use the clean setting and use pedals to achieve the raw sounds. Unfortunately in doing so it kind of defeats the purpose of owning a Fender tube amp so I plan on retubing with Eurotube JJs (6v6). I'm getting the Blues Option #2 to drop volume and to make the overdrives more usable. Breakup will be achieved sooner at lower volume. It will have a more bluesy tone as well. A lot of folks dislike the DeVilles, but I'm not one.

What is the "Blues Option #2"?

This: https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... gory_id=32

You need to rebias when changing power tubes especially going from 6L6 to 6V6. Now I assume you'll ask "what's bias"? Look for the 'how to bias' videos on the Eurotubes website.

Biasing the HR's is pretty easy you just need a multimeter and a screw driver. Somewhere you can find the old Justin Holten website files and he does a great job of explaining the process on the HR's. Just be carefull since you have to bias the amp when it's on. Practice holding both the multimeter leads with one hand and keep one hand in your pocket when you're working on the amp.
