Here's my take on your questions:

1) No, just DSP/Preamp
2) No, it's Line Out with no amplification, you will get no sound
3) Yes, and my understanding is that if you use an 8 Ohm 12 Inch or two 4 Ohm 12 inchers, it sounds terrific and loud.

A Shure SM57 is $99.00 new and it's the perfect mic for this application.

Line Out to another amp (Triggerman in your case) will work well, just no tubes, only DSP/Preamp.

Line Out is not at all the same as a guitar out. While they are both Hi-Z, the XD line out will be a much hotter level, and will of course come pre-EQ'd. The guitar amp you're putting the line out into is expecting a low-level guitar pickup output signal non-EQ'd.

So when performing this hi-wire act, do 2 things first. TURN DOWN your 2nd amp all the way, and turn the tone controls to middle/neutral for starters. Basically, as flat as possible, which on a guitar amp is nigh impossible. Then bring up your volume slowly. Be aware that the signal going into the guitar input is very hot for it and take care not to overdrive the 2nd amp's preamp unless you want a lot of secondary distortion.

Ok, so I have a few questions that this recent thread has brought up.
1. If I record the amp with the line out, will I get any of the tube sound? Or will it only be the modeling and effects?
2. If I use the line out into a cab, say a 2x12 for live use, without a head, will I get the tube sound?
3. Could I unplug the Champ's speaker, and plug a cab's larger speaker right into the speaker input of the Champ? This seams like my best option, if it is do-able.

These were the main reasons I wanted this amp, it sounds great just playing it, but its much easier for me to line out my amps because my mics aren't very high quality, and my room is very "echoey". And if I can use it as a head with a cab, then it would double as my live amp as well, with a respectable cab under it.

Of course I could mic it for both of these, but a PA system isn't always readily available, whereas if I had a cab it would cut costs for me a great deal.

Another option for me is line-out to my Triggerman 60 watt solid state amp, which uses a 12" speaker. Would it be better to plug the Champ into the 12" speaker directly, or to plug the Champ into the input of the Triggerman itself?

Sorry for the wordy post, but this amp seems so great that I want to be %100 sure of it before purchasing, it seems too good to be true!

Thanks, Boyko.

1. Line out jack is BEFORE the tube amp stage -- phase splitter and power tubes. You're getting the signal straight off the preamp and DSP FX.

2. Lineout will NOT drive another cabinet unless you run into another power amp, then another cabinet.

3. You could an external cabinet, but then the champ's signal will be affected (good or bad) by the tone of the external speaker cabinet. The external cabinet must also have the same speaker impedance (probably 8 ohms). You will also lose the advantage of using the speaker which was designed for this amp.

You need to try running the amp using all the options you've listed and ultimately, you have to decide which method sounds best to YOU. If you're only using it for recording at home or in a studio, then a complex (heavy) setup isn't as troublesome. If you have to haul the champ, an extension cabinet, possibly another amp... all to a gig and setup within a limited amount of time then it becomes a bigger hassle.

Thanks all, this clears up alot. It would appear getting a 2x12 cab, each with 4 ohms, should be the best option for me. Correct, I would have to find a good set of speakers to match the amp, but I'm sure a Fender cab, or a copy of that type should do the trick.

This should be easier for me to do than bring my current live amp around, the Triggerman, as it is extremely heavy. Somewhere around 50 pounds, maybe 60, and its only a 1x12 combo. I know this is alot to do with the wood they used (I believe plywood, as its a cheap Epiphone), but the speaker is also very heavy (also Epiphone). Also, it has a good sound, but I really want the Champ's tube sound, or rather its hybrid sound.

For recording, I guess a mic is in order, and soon I should be moving to an actual studio, so this should be fine, and without the cab would be better for volume to be kept down, and to keep the original sound of the 10".

Thanks for all the suggestions, I was worried that this amp wouldn't be what I had been looking for, but my concerns were unwarranted. SO long as I use the speaker out for the cab I should be fine, and if I want to quickly record a track the line out will work, but its better to mic.

Thanks again, Boyko.

The line out is fine for demos and non-critical club PA performance. But when you want to get serious, stick an SM57 in front of it. 10,000 hit records can't be wrong.
