I have a '59 Bassman Reissue. The amp has inputs for a 'bright' channel and a 'normal' channel. The other guitarist in my band does not have an amp that can keep up with drums (volume-wise). If we both plug into my amp and play loud, could that harm the amp?

When I was 15 or 16 in my 1st band we used to run a guitar and bass through a 68 Bassman and caused no apparent damage but I can't say for sure it wouldn't damage a 59 reissue someone like Martian would know for sure.

Go for it. Back in the day, Fender amps were designed with multiple inputs so more than one instrument could be put through the amp. I recently saw a vintage Fender ad from the 50's that advertised the Bassman having "exceptional fidelity for piano, bass guitar, electric guitar, voice, phonograph" and went on and on listing a bunch of other instruments. I think that statement was a marketing play though.

Don't plug all those instruments in a reissue and crank it. Guitars are OK though.

Yeah, I was only planning on doing a guitar/bass combo or a guitar/guitar combo.

Nope, not as long as you use common sense. Like don't use a ton of effects and boost them to oblivion on both guitars. If you get too crazy, you may damage the speakers.

We had two guitars through a Showman, back in the 60's, no problem. In fact when we started out, you ran the guitar or bass into your 1484 Sears Silvertone and your vocal mic. Man, those were the days! Anyway, Supro has it right about using common sense. Have fun! If you're not havin' fun yet, then you better get started! Art

Not a problem at all. Back in the late 80s when I had my Music Man 410 65, I would plug into the reverb channel and our other guitar player would plug into the normal channel. Both amps in front of the bass drum (just the outside edge) so that the bass drum wouldn't creep up the floor and the drummer could hear us...

In 1969 our lead player and rhythm player on occasion shared a Fender Twin Reverb at practice. They never really cranked up, but it sounded fine.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
