I ran into a buddy yesterday who offered to sell me an amp he had. I told him I didn't really need another one but he offered it at a pretty nice price. The amp is a Carvin Nomad which is a part of their vintage tweed series. Aside from the fact that Steve Vai uses Carvin equipment I know very little about their amps. The amp uses EL84s and is equipped with 1 12" speaker. Anyone have any experience with these amps or Carvin in general? Thanks for your input.

We have one in our practice studio, but no one uses it. It's OK, but there are better Fender amps and other EL84 amps - although, I don't know what the pretty nice price is.

If you like the sound of the amp and the price is right, why not.

Thanks for the info. It sounded pretty decent and he wanted $200 for it but I took a pass. I really wasn't looking for another amp even though that was probably a fair deal.

The price was definitely right at $200 for a US-made tube amp. I believe these retail for 3 times that.

Can't say I've tried em. They probably sound pretty alright, though.

If you took the plunge and later changed your mind you'd probably get back more than you paid for it.

I would have jumped on it for 200 bucks. They're not bad at all. It's not a Fender sound, but it doesn't pretend to be either. They're real reliable too.
