My favourite for blues is a tweed Bassman. Sadly, I don't own one, so I'll have to break with your assertion...

Well its a silly question isnt it.

Gibbons would argue that its a Plexi, JCM800 or Crate.
Clapton would argue that its a Twin or based on his recording career a JTM45.
Buddy Guy has used just about every amp ever in his extensive career. Including the JCM800 4211/2210 that he used to endorse. A metal players dream amp.
What did Muddy Waters use?
BB King swears by some old solidstate thing.

Everyone plays something different, theres many different blues sounds. Delta, Chicago, Paris, British, modern, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, etc.

I seem to recall that, at least in his slightly-later-years, he was often seen using a cranked Super.

Clapton might also argue it's an AC30 (Yardbirds), tweed champ (Derek & The Dominoes), Soldano, Cornell Custom or a signature Martin Acoustic. And from his "Just One Night" album, you're hearing Music Man HD130 reverb amps back when he was a top endorsee. At one point the Fender custom shop was building him custom 1-off copies of his 58 Tweed twins.

Buddy Guy - I remember they had him endorsing the RI bassmans, and then the Cyber Twins briefly - one of the oddest endorcement pairings ever. He's now using a Chicago Blues Box that he had a hand in designing - hopped up version of his 59 bassman: http://www.chicagobluesbox.com/content/ ... ticleID=18

BB King uses the Gibson LAB 5, a solid state amp that along with the Roland Jazz Chorus 120 have become 2 very desirable SS amps.

and to be clear from my first post, I don't own a 57 bandmaster 3x10, but someday would like to.

Yeah to make my earlier post clear. the Clubman35 was my favorite amp, but after the band broke up a couple of years ago, I let it go. Now, for pick-up bands, I use a '68 Bassman(moddified with TLC)2X10 combo or a '67 Band Master. Both work great for my needs. Art

Like many have already stated there's no best amp for blues.I've played blues through many Fenders,Traynors,Peaveys,Voxes,Marshalls etc and still got my message across, the blues is in your fingers and soul not in the amp.

Still playin' the blues after 40 yrs of electric and acoustic pickin'. I agree with all of you about the hands and heart being the main contributing factors. But maybe Eric is just looking for some specific ideas about which amps work for us. My '55 Oahu is great for small jams, or mic'd with a drummer. Art

Just about any amp that breaks up nicely when driven a bit will do the job, such as the Blues Jr.,Traynor has reissued it's Guitar Mate,I have a 66 original and it's perfect for blues.Although I stand by what I said in a previous post you can play the blues on just about any amp (especially older tube amps)because the biggest part of it is in your hands and soul.
