You want to stick with the newer Classic 30 with the medallion on the front. It has been upgraded. The older ones are needing mods from blueguitar.
The C30 is supposed to work best with a 112 ext cabinet too. Plenty loud for most gigs.

It just depends on your ears. Personally I can't stand the SCXD. But then I won't buy an amp that I have to mod to make sound marginal either. That why I wouldn't mod my HRDlx and sold it. I won't go beyond tubes.
The mods IMO for the HRD series amps are IMO nothing more than wasted money. I do give amps a chance and live with them a while. You can't find its faults in a store demo. They need to be gigged to find the flaws. Just my opinion, but the Peavey C30 is light years ahead of both the Blues Jr in both tone and build quality, and many light years ahead of the SDXD. I consider the SCXD a toy just like my GDec 30. I won't even use my GDec for anything but private practice to build my technique.

It is something in the tone stack. Don't know the specifics. I have seen on the Peavey forum mention of the mod.

I had a 15 and the thing took a dump on me after 3 months. I thought I was upgrading to the 30 but I was wrong. I had more crappy effect s and loops in it. I think I should have bought a Line 6 Spider Jam. The Peavey 30's I've played sounded really good to me. I've borrowed them on many an open mic night and they sounded great in stock form. The Egnater was just a lot more versatile.

I've read that the stock tubes are also (apparently) much better than what was used, previously. I think mine has EHX tubes - 12AX7 and EL84.

Good to hear the C30 will work for you buglo. A couple of other thoughts on them..... Although it is heavier than the BJ, one reason it doesn't seem as heavy to me is it's size. It's compact, and that really helps. But it's not so compact that it sounds boxy like a BJ.

The other thing is, a C30 sounds good at all volume levels IMO. Even at 30 watts, it sounds good at bedroom levels on both channels. It really does an all around good job.

Still....I love those rockin' PJ's!! Great amps!

Tube Dampers. Most tube combos develop tube rattle eventually. That's why I went back to a had and cab.
