Looking for a grab and go amp that I can take to blues jams that would be light.Right now I take my blues jr to a few and I dont really care for the tone.It has no bass whatsoever .I also have a drri, but there are a few places that I dont really want to take it to.Thought the peavey classic 20 might be a good fit and they are cheap.Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if they still make the 20. Peavey still has th Clessic 30. I would take that over a Blues Jr ant day. The Peavey's are really reliable good sounding amps. If you can find a Peavey Classic 20, I'd go for it.

Thanks Supro,I have spied a few used ones for almost what I can probably sell the jr for.I thought about the classic 30 too , but with the drri,I really wanted something easy to carry and sounds good that I wont have to worry about breaking down.Peavey has a great reputation .If I find a good deal on a 30 , you never know.

I like the Blues Jr., but when it came time to buy for myself, I picked a Classic 30 over it.

I haven't heard much about the 20s - I don't think they make them anymore, and I haven't seen any in my area. But I love my 30.

The Peavey Classic 30 is the aboslute best sounding amp of those discussed here. The Classic 20 next to the 30 sounds like poo. I wanted a 20 really bad, but when I put it next to a 30, I HAD to let go of the desire and get the 30. Great amp. It really isn't that much heavier than the BJ. The perfect grab and go amp IMHO is a PJ, but with the bottom end you're looking for, the C30 is the ticket.

You know , I had a chance to try a classic 30 today and for an extra 100 bucks, I think I will go with that.My concern with the 20 is it might sound kinda boxy, like the bjr and with a 10 inch speaker ,hardly any head room .The 30 is more versitile and plenty loud for the jams. When I play in my band its the drri, but some of these places I take my gear to arent real nice, if you know what I mean. The classic 30 is plenty light and portable too.

The Pro Jr. sounds way boxy to me but sounds decent through an extension cab. My Egnater 20 is light. The head is 16lbs and the cab is 30. I can sling the head over my shoulder carry the cab and my guitar in one trip.

But the Peavey Classic 30 or the Peavey Delta Blues with the 15" speaker would be my choice now knowing what I know and experienced with my HRDlx.

I agree,I tried the classic 30 and was very impressed with the way it sounded and how portable it is.I would have no problem taking this to jams and getting good tone out of it.I will save my drri for my gigs .Last time I went and took my drri, everyone wanted to play thru it.The thing is with the blonde blues jr ,i could sell it for almost what I can get a classic 30 for used.

I thought I was going to regret selling my tweed BJ, but I let it go for the same reasons that you're citing: no bass, tone issues.

I don't miss it. My Supro had me at first strum...

I've never played through a C30, but I like Peavey amps. And whenever I hear about them in guitar discussions, words like "tank" and "solid" always come up, but mostly I hear the classic it's a peavey...

Even the Peavey amps I don't really care for like the Bandit are rock solid amps. The never die and keep American workers working. The saddest thing was seeing Fender move so much of it's operation to Mexico. It's not that American workers want too much money, It's that the average good pay in Mexico is $40 a day and I seriously doubt they even get that. Plus you don't have to worry about the EPA or OSHA. It means huge profits.

I have been toying with the idea of a Peavey and have been looking at the specs and soundbytes on the Peavey website for both the classic 30 and the Delta Blues. If memory serves me, the classic 30 weighs about the same as a Fender DRRI (around 41 or 42#) and the Delta Blues is nearly 50#. Love the sound of both but would probably give the Delta the edge for its sound.

Neither the Peavey Clsc. 30 nor the DRRI are as portable as the Blues Jr. with around a 10# advantage. I dealt with the lack of enough bass with a Boss Eq. pedal, but then that's another 'thing' you have to carry and set up  Guess there are no free lunches :?

The lack of bass that I experienced with my BJ wasn't the EQ; it was the "flubbiness." Forget about any kind of palm muting...

A friend of mine is a VERY picky player when it comes to tone, and his main amp is a Delta Blues. I agree with him; it's sweet, but I could never deal with the weight. I think my DRRI is heavy

You know, when you get older ,portability becomes a big factor.I have a 59 bassman ri that weighs 54 lbs.I was taking it on gigs ,but with its 45 watts and weight I was looking for something I could use at any venue that I would be playing and didnt have to worry about lugging it around. The drri is quite a bit lighter. The big reason I kept the jr is because sizewise , its a great grab and go amp.I believe it weighs 32 lbs.My drri weighs 42.The classic 30 weighs 39, which isnt bad, but from what I heard today at GC ,it has great tone.Definately something I can take to a jam and not have to worry about it being bumped around.I had forgotten the great quality Peavey puts out.I used to have a Peavey acoustic back in the mid 90s that was handcrafted in Finland and it was a pretty nice guitar.

I tried out the Classic 30 and was not impressed at all. If you want a great smaller size low wattage amp with great tone, I recommend the PRRI. This amp has incredible bottom end with great warm cleans.
As far as the BJ, I did the Billm mods and just week had Bill install his newest mod which adds significant base to this amp which is really needed. Coupled with a C-Rex speaker, this is now great sounding amp with nice cleans with nice bottom thump.

I had both the Classic 30 and BJ. Both amps that I wanted to love, but they just did not work for me. The BJ, even with speaker change, tended to sound compressed and muffled, no clear bottom end. The Classic 30, I tried several speakers, tube changes, etc, and although it sounded fine at home, it never cut through live. The last speaker I had in it was a Celestion V30, and it certainly was had the clearest top and bottom end. I ended up selling both and found a SCXD on CL that with a speaker replacement works out great for a one-trip gig.
